This content (or portions thereof) describes ISBoxer 42! ISBoxer 42 is newly released, and we are working on updating parts of the documentation for the new version.

Styles

ISBoxer 42 provides 5 distinct configuration styles during the Quick Setup Wizard. A recommended style is always selected by default, based on our experiences with the game you have selected on the first page of the wizard.

Bare

See Bare Configuration for complete details. This style starts without any of the standard Key Maps and Menus (meaning no Broadcasting Toggle, etc), and may require additional manual configuration. ISBoxer provides a lot of standardized features that work across all games, more or less; using this configuration style gives up all of that in order to provide a blank slate for an advanced tinkerer. This is only recommended for ISBoxer veterans -- if you are a newbie, it is definitely recommended to choose one of the other styles.

Non-broadcasting

See Non-broadcasting Configuration for complete details, including basic configuration of this style. This style of configuration is best for those who are not interested in Input Broadcasting features, and for games with Input Broadcasting prohibited or limited (e.g. EVE Online). This will be selected by default for EVE Online and other games known to have such rules.

The Non-broadcasting style will disable Broadcasting Mode via a check box on your Character Set labelled "Disable capabilities to control multiple windows simultaneously, including Broadcasting and Action Target Groups". This box may be un-checked at your own risk, bearing in mind that EVE Online still allows Input Broadcasting to be used in certain cases that do not affect the gameplay of others (e.g. arranging your in-game windows in all clients at once, or changing in-game settings in all clients at once).

This style includes the Universal Key Maps, although the functionality will be limited by the described check box.

MMO - Standard

See MMO - Standard Configuration for complete details, including basic configuration of this style.

This style of configuration is best for most of today's MMORPG games. This style includes the Universal Key Maps, and has Menus for Toggles (Hotkeys and Broadcasting toggles), Action Bar Overlay (optional from the Quick Setup Wizard) and Formations (hidden until called for).

Basic broadcasting of the standard Action Bar Hotkeys for most MMORPGs (1 through =) is included by default, optionally including Auto-Assist and Auto-Interact with Target.

MMO - Pro

See MMO - Pro Configuration for complete details, including basic configuration of this style.

This style includes and is built upon the MMO - Standard style. On top of the features in MMO - Standard, this style includes additional MMO - Pro Configuration-specific Key Maps, as well as Action Target Groups.

The Pro Configuration is designed to allow you to press the same buttons on your keyboard (or favorite input device) to generally play any combination of Characters together. For example, you may have a "Stun" ability on one or more Characters, and always want to press "5" to have one Character at a time use this ability. Likewise, your Characters may have different sequences of buttons to press during combat, but perhaps you always want to press "1" to have all of your Characters press the next button in their sequence. With the Pro Configuration, the general idea is to map this sort of Hotkey to your different Characters (or their in-game roles or classes), so that your team may consist of any or all of them, yet you still operate them exactly same way with the same buttons.

This provides immense benefits for playing mixed-class teams, or managing many different teams, at the cost of having to take the time to define each of those things (each class's or Character's keys and sequences) for ISBoxer. Some key sequences (e.g. for general DPS during a fight) can be complicated to do well, so your mileage may vary, but most sequences (e.g. have one Character that actually has Stun send the key for Stun) are quite simple and easy to configure.

Some of the best parts about Pro Configuration
  • Few buttons to learn in order to play. The same buttons will work in different games!
  • Easy to replace any character in any team with any other, without having to learn new buttons
  • You can also use your Pro configuration for solo play for the same benefits!
  • Easy to add new classes and roles
  • Possible to switch roles (e.g. character specializations) on the fly

Generic Broadcasting

See Generic Broadcasting Configuration for complete details, including basic configuration of this style.

This style of configuration is best for games with mouse-based movement, requiring broadcasting to be enabled most of the time while you play. "Hold to Control" Hotkeys are also a standard part of this Configuration Style, allowing quick and easy control of any single window at a time, without switching windows -- this can be very useful for things like clicking on items which may be in a different location on the ground in each window, or re-synchronizing an out-of-place Character (which may have been stunned, knocked back, moving at a different speed, etc -- there are any number of reasons that your Characters get split up as a normal and expected part of gameplay).

This style includes the Universal Key Maps.
