Error CS0016 Spam when opening isboxer (SOLVED)

(fixed! Just had to uninstall VMWare Workstation 11, disable the services it was running then delete all of the temp files it created in Windows\temp. not sure why this worked, but it did have 3 or 4 services running in the background all the time...)

Hello, I just bought my ISBoxer subscription, and I am getting a TON of errors when trying to open the ToolKit.

I run windows 7, fresh installed ISBoxer today. I've done some looking around on the forums here, and there doesn't seem to be anyone having the same problem as me.
I also don't have any programs installed on the "conflicting programs" list, and even with MBAM,(my only antivirus software) completely turned off, I get the same errors.

I get an error about writing to a file or something.(links to images of the errors below) And that it couldn't execute CVTRES.exe.
After doing some research on the problem, I found it had to do with .NET framework, so I reinstalled every version of .NET framework that I had on my computer, as well as version 3.5 (as there was something on it on a sticky'd post).

Even after restarting my computer, reinstalling the program as well as .NET framework entirely and closing unneeded background applications... I'm still getting the same errors. If anyone has any ideas, I would really appreciate some help.

Every time I attempt to run the ToolKit, I get the following errors, another popping up immediately after pressing "OK" on the previous one.

The program does eventually start up, and I haven't yet tested it's functionality, but either way, these errors are terribly annoying, and a fix would be nice.
If you need any more information from me, please let me know.

Thanks for your time, consideration, and hopefully a fix.

Re: Spammed with errors when opening and closing isboxer toolkit

It kinda looks like a permissions issue. Are you IS and ISBoxer as an administrator? You may need to right-click on the shortcut (or executable) files, and then choose to specifically open the programs as an administrator.

Also, one of your errors indicates that you have not run Inner Space prior to launching ISBoxer, but again, if the programs don't have the correct privileges, then they can't write anything. You might also try moving the entire Inner Space folder out of the Program Files folder (although you shouldn't have to).

Re: Spammed with errors when opening and closing isboxer toolkit

This looks like a similar problem that is being experienced by the odd user of Windows 10 (although I didn't look through ALL your images). This tends to be caused by Antivirus software which is interfering with the .NET runtime from jitting (Just In Time compiling) the assembly (the executable).

Disabling Antivirus does not actually disable the filter drivers that are installed for AV to do it's job. Which means that the I/O is still going through the AV filter driver. You need to uninstall it to really test whether it is causing your issue.
For more info you can see this this article from MS, while long, explains some stuff about filter drivers and then in a small bit of text explains....
KB816071 wrote:Most antivirus software uses filter drivers that work together with a service to scan for viruses. These filter drivers are still loaded after the service is deactivated. These filter drivers scan files as they are opened and closed on a hard disk. For troubleshooting purposes, temporarily remove the antivirus software

Failing that, if ISboxer actually opens, you can grab a diagnostic. Don't worry about running your game, select the ISBoxer Toolkit process in the drop down, and diagnostic that, and post back the results.

edit: As an aside. Make sure your temporary folder does not have 65535 files in it. This is the maximum number of temporary files you can have and after this Windows will fail to create them.

Thanks for the quick responses.

Yeah, I'm running inner space before the toolkit, as well as running both as administrator. I tried moving it right under the C drive, same errors though.

Okay, I'll try uninstalling my antivirus and get back to you with the result. Here is the diagnostic before I do it though: http://pastebin.com/iRVVwrjH

Antivirus fully uninstalled, still getting the same errors :(
edit: temp folder has ~16,900 files in it.

Re: Spammed with errors when opening and closing isboxer toolkit

It's a weird one.

The wisdom of google says
  • This issue occurs if the user account does not have the List Folder Contents and Read permissions
  • If you use the xsd.exe tool to generate your cs it may have added double arrays [][] where an array should be []. Replace all [][] with [] in your generated cs file and retry.
  • Your options are either to (1) given the user account which is running the process write permission (this is kinda funny as the 1st option is on Microsoft's website as the resolution). (2) Use the SDK tool (sgen.exe) to pre-generate (at development/compile time) the serialisation assembly, and then use (and deplot) that assembly.
  • Use COMODO antivirus? Open COMODO Command Window (Main Window), and check the SANDBOX. If your application is listed as an application that has been flagged 'limited', simply right click and select the option from the popup to add your application as a Trusted Application. Or just uninstall COMODO and reboot (you still have some launcher process that seems to have something to do with COMODO).

Only the first and fourth (and maybe a bit of the 3rd, you can do. The others are Lax things to check out, but as other people don't have the same issue I suspect it is something on your computer, and not something for Lax to fix.
If it is not permissions, then it will be something else denying the access/function.

I would try
Clearing the temp folder
Testing permissions in the temp folder (can you create a file there yourself)
Shutting down and uninstalling other software (starting with COMODO)

Re: Spammed with errors when opening and closing isboxer toolkit

Alright. I've fiddled with this for a solid 8+ hours. I can't get it to work, there doesn't seem to be a solution. I've tried everything I could except the xml serialization. I have no idea how to do that, or even what it means.

I've done every possible change to the ASP.NET account (don't know why it's even there in the first place) including
-Giving permissions to my temp folders
-Removing the password.
-Deleting the account entirely.
(reason behind this was another thread about asp.net causing problems with writing to the temp folders or something)

I had Comodo a few years ago, uninstalled a very long time ago from annoyance, but I reinstalled it to check the sandbox. Even with the sandbox cleared out, ISBoxer and InnerSpace on the whitelist, the same errors occur.

So to recap, I've disabled, uninstalled all of my antivirus(MBAM,Comodo), tried a "clean boot", uninstalled / reinstalled Visual Studio, uninstalled / reinstalled Innerspace(quite a few times), repaired and reinstalled all of my .NET framework, completely cleared out my temp folders, changed the environment variables for the temp folders, gave full permissions to every user including asp.net (have no idea why I had asp.net, guess it comes with .net 1), I've tried running both ISBoxer toolkit and InnerSpace (86 and 64) in compatibility mode for pretty much every option there, as well as administrator and non administrator privileges.

Anyone else having this error (cs0016) seems to be trying to create a class. I don't know if that's part of running a program, but I do know it's something you do when you're writing c#, which I haven't done in a while. I tried another solution from someone on a forum somewhere who seemed to claim it was the simple solution to this whole problem, to run devenv -resetsettings (visual studio thing). I had uninstalled Visual Studio a while ago because my trial period had expired, and I just assumed I didn't need it taking up my HD space any more. So I reinstalled it (took 2 hours to install, fun) opened up my command prompt and navigated to the location of Devenv.exe, typed in devenv -resetsettings, and after a good 3 minutes of waiting for Visual Studio to open, a popup with "Your trial period has expired, you can't do that" appeared.

Just as a note, there are no problems with my temp folder permissions, I have no issues when copying / pasting executables and running them, creating files, opening reading and writing to files in them.

I'm truly lost.

If you're running ISBoxer under the ASP.NET account then that will be the issue.
I deliberately removed the reference to the ASP.NET account in what I posted because it would be highly unlikely you are using it when you are running ISBoxer. Whatever is happening will be on the account you are logging in as.

You could try setting your environment variables so you temp folders are pointing somewhere else. See what happens.

You could do a clean install on your computer. Would probably have taken less that 2 hours. You talk about having things installed "a few years ago". As a general rule I clean install every year so make sure crud is not left over. Once you get to 2 or 3 years, if you've been installing and uninstalling software, which is never known to be particularly tidy, then you should really consider doing this.

Re: Spammed with errors when opening and closing isboxer toolkit

I wasn't running it on the asp.net account. I was just making changes to it because a thread somewhere on Microsoft forums said it caused problems with the temp folders. I didn't even know it existed before stumbling upon that thread. Yeah, I guess my only option is to reformat. I don't have any problems with any other applications, but behind why a fresh install is my last option is the 4 tb of valuable data I'm going to have to sift through when cloning it off and copying it back over. I was also planning on getting a new ssd within the next couple of months for my main drive and installing just windows and my games there, not sure but I'd think that would do something about this. I just don't want to be cutting in to the subscription I just payed for. Is there a way I can "freeze" my subscription until I resolve this issue?

It's not really a "freeze", but you could request a refund and resub when you've done whatever with your PC. You wont really need a sub in order to find out whether a .NET program which uses serialization can start on your computer without errors.
