Focus issues

I'm using ISBoxer for EQ1. Three screens, three clients, and I'm having what seem to be focus-related issues. Sometimes, when simply running along, the focus will change to a different client. The odd thing is that the mouse cursor is STILL on the original screen, but keyboard actions (including movement) are affecting the other screen. The temp fix seems to be clicking back in the screen that needs focus, but this is really messing things up. It seems to be random, but happens often enough, and gets me killed often enough, that I decided to create an account and ask for help. Any ideas? I've tried googling and searching these forums, but to no avail.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Focus issues

Sounds very weird indeed.

The only reason ISBoxer would try ansd switch windows like that is if you had some mapped keys do so, but normally your active window would change in this case, unless of course you had swapping disabled.

Perhaps if you shared your profile (viewtopic.php?f=8&t=13) we could see if there was anything in there,
But more than likely you will need to get a diagnostic (http://isboxer.com/wiki/Diagnostics) so we can see if there are any likely other processes that would be causing the problem.

Re: Focus issues

Hi and thanks for the response. Here is my configuration:

I'll reply again shortly with the diagnostic. This is getting to be really frustrating, so I really appreciate you looking into this. I do have swapping disabled (at least, I think that's what I want :)

And here is my diagnostic:

For the record, I usually play without any other windows open on this machine (no Firefox, for example).

I hope you see something I missed - Thanks!

Re: Focus issues

There is nothing that immediately jumps out, and usually if an application is trying to steal the focus, then you normally get a flashing taskbar icon, if you are getting this, then it is definitely something else. If you aren't getting it, then that is weird, but it is possibly a switch you aren't aware of.

As you have set Focus Follows Mouse, are you sure it is not when the mouse happens to wander, if ever so briefly, onto another screen? Like when you are delving around the edge? If so, then perhaps disable the focus follows mouse, see if it goes away. Also do you use CTRL+ALT+1, CTRL+ALT+2, CTRL+ALT+3 hotkeys? These will change the focus too in ISBoxer, unless you disable them.

If not, then I think you are in the realms of shut down any other applications you can, such as:
Code:
30. NDSPCShowServer.exe - Process ID: 3640 (C:\Users\a\AppData\Local\Charter\Charter TV Player\NDSPCShowServer.exe) [Admin:NO] [x86] [4,1,0,21029] [Charter TV Player]
32. PCShowServerPMWrapper.exe - Process ID: 3400 (C:\Users\a\AppData\Local\Charter\Charter TV Player\PCShowServerPMWrapper.exe) [Admin:NO] [x86] [1.0.0.1] [NDS Technologies] [PC Show power management wrapper]
33. powershell.exe - Process ID: 2884 (C:\WINDOWS\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.EXE) [Admin:NO] [x64] [6.3.9600.17396 (winblue_r4.141007-2030)] [Microsoft Corporation] [Windows PowerShell]
24. ipoint.exe - Process ID: 2020 (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center\ipoint.exe) [Admin:NO] [x64] [2.3.188.0] [Microsoft Corporation] [IPoint.exe]
26. itype.exe - Process ID: 352 (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center\itype.exe) [Admin:NO] [x64] [2.3.188.0] [Microsoft Corporation] [IType.exe]

And maybe disable the onboard Intel Graphics (in the BIOS usually), which should stop these
Code:
19. igfxCUIService.exe - Process ID: 456 (C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxCUIService.exe) [Admin:NO] [x64]
20. igfxEM.exe - Process ID: 3784 (C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxEM.exe) [Admin:NO] [x64]
21. igfxHK.exe - Process ID: 800 (C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxHK.exe) [Admin:NO] [x64]
22. igfxTray.exe - Process ID: 3728 (C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxTray.exe) [Admin:NO] [x64]

YMMV.

Re: Focus issues

I went ahead and removed those processes, but the problem still happens.

The mouse can be in the center of the screen and all of a sudden my key strokes are affecting a different screen. The mouse cursor is still on the main screen, and I can move it around, but until I actually click, keystrokes continue to affect the other (wrong) screen. The only way to get the keystrokes to come back to the main screen is to click again.

For example, I use the mouse to steer and my "w" key to run forward. I can be running along, not even touching the mouse, and all of a sudden my toon will stop and another toon starts running. The mouse is still on the first screen (and can even be moved on the main screen or over to the third screen), but until I actually click the mouse, the keystrokes will continue to be registered on the second screen (even though the mouse has never actually touched that screen).

As you can see by the diagnostic, there really isn't much of anything running. There is nothing in the taskbar except the three EQ clients. Nothing flashes or pops up when the issue occurs.

I'm using the onboard graphics for the third monitor.

I was hoping that there was some weird config option set or a broken hotkey.

Re: Focus issues

Ok, then try this.
In your Window Layout -> The A Team 2, select the Regions node, then on the right, select Swap Groups, and set the Active Region and the Reset Region to No Region. Export and restart the character set.

The way your window layout is setup currently, the game rendering is all happening on the graphics card attached to your centre monitor (because it is where the Reset Region is located). This then means you have what is called Cross Monitor Swapping, which is actually, render on one graphics card, display on another. This is a bad thing. It also might be what is causing the problem.

Now doing this does mean you will lose all window swapping because you are removing the Active Region (where other slots will swap to), but I'm not sure that matters for the purposes of testing this out.

Re: Focus issues

I know it has been a while since I last responded, but I wanted to let everybody know that I continue to have these problems with focus while using ISBoxer. I have no swapping enabled (or at least I shouldn't). I have disabled every background service I could. I have reinstalled graphics drivers. I have uninstalled keyboard software.

To reiterate: The mouse stays on the correct screen and keyboard input moves to another EQ client. The client it shifts to is random, except that it is always an EQ client that is under ISBoxer control. Focus does not shift to ANY OTHER applications, just the EQ Clients under ISBoxer control. I do not have the problem if I don't use ISBoxer. I do not have the problem with EQ clients not under control of ISBoxer (if I happen to be running extra clients other than my main three).

I've attached my current configuration. Extremely frustrating, since I love some of the ISBoxer features (would not want to box without them!). Great program - and really want to get this cleared up.

Re: Focus issues

Well, if you still think it is only due to using ISBoxer, then the only thing I can suggest is that the use of the clipboard and pasting into the game may be causing the issue.

Having multiple games accessing the clipboard from non focused windows, at the same time might be doing some weird things. It might also be transferring the input focus, but it will be the games implementation that is doing this, because EQ has it's own method for this (including it's own keybind).

It is also possible that EQ is trying to grab input focus to deal with paste, band then because you are using Focus Follows Mouse, ISboxer is setting it back to the current game because that is where the mouse is, but EQ hasn't released the input stream from the keyboard. IDK here, just theorising.

How about, for testing purposes, create some socials , update your config to call them via keystrokes, instead of the clipboard stuff. Try it out, and report back.

This also looks dodgy
Code:
9. GINA.exe - Process ID: 5008 (C:\Users\a\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0\Y6V6O4YH.ZKZ\2V8GG152.BHD\gina..tion_1b6380780390d0f3_0001.0000_e82b2fdc768422e4\GINA.exe) [Admin:NO] [x86] [1.0.23.0] [GimaSoft LLC] [GINA]
