Massive performance hit...

Hi,

Posted this aswell on Dual-boxing, but I think here it would be better in place.
Short info:It worked before I stopped playing in June, no big changes on my side, only monitors swapped on the desk... no new hardware/software. Just Wow5.x
Updated wow to new version, and started. playing.
HW: gtx560ti and gtx275 for the 2nd+3rd screen.
SW is unplayable now, fps on the main screen is bad...<24fps, stuck at 13 most of the time.
Did a fresh install of windows+wow (so no addons and whatever)+isboxer.
Removed maxfps in wow and isboxer.
Starting wow.exe gives 85+ fps. (double click on wow.exe), screen setting is 1680x1050 windowed.
Starting wow from my new freshly wizarded ISboxer.... 25fps with luck. Staying at the same spot.
Loginscreen started from isboxer does 400+ fps, hard to read.
Here is my isboxer setup.
I am completely clueless what might be causing this problem, reinstalling everything did not solve it.
My girlfriend also plays wow, multiboxes it too, and has no problems, with the same setup. (GTX560=GTX460)
Keep in mind it did work before.
My old xml is still available, but suffers the same problems like my new one.
Looking forward to some tips...

The two relevant pages from the wiki are http://isboxer.com/wiki/HOWTO:Tweak_your_framerate and http://isboxer.com/wiki/GPU_Management. My guess is your answer is in there somewhere. I'd double-check all your in-game settings against the advice in those links. Game patches have been known to reset configuration files, leaving you with settings you didn't expect.

Re: Massive performance hit...

First: You mentioned that your monitors have been swapped on the desk. If they've been plugged/unplugged and switched around, you may need to re-create your Window Layout to match your current monitor layout. Each display in your Window Layout is numbered like \\.\DISPLAY1 \\.\DISPLAY2 \\.\DISPLAY3. (or in this case, 1,3,4 according to your Window Layout). If you have unplugged a monitor and plugged it into another slot in your Video Cards, then its display number has changed! (This has also happened to me from a driver update before, where they switched which port on the back was 1 vs 2... *sigh*..) This number is important to match up when you have multiple Video Cards, because ISBoxer is going to tell the game to be on a specific display, by number, according to your Window Layout. This would of course apply to your previously existing layout, but not to the freshly wizarded one (since it will have the right numbers).

Secondly... this Character Set only has one Character in it. You're using this Character Set, with only 1 Character in it, and getting poor FPS? The one character in your config should always remain on the main screen, has swapping disabled, etc; so this would imply that this particular performance issue is not related to your Window Layout or Multiple GPUs (unless the displays are misnumbered as described above).

Lastly.. since WoW 5.0 some people have been switching down to DirectX 9 to solve performance issues. I would definitely try that and toy with your other WoW graphics settings as Alge has suggested.

Re: Massive performance hit...

Hi all,

It is solved. For now it seems.
Destroying all the wows and putting it back to DX9 like Lax (and others) have suggested did the trick.
No idea why, yesterday putting it back to DX9 did not solve it. Maybe a mix of something. No idea.
Regarding the screens, no unplugging on the gfxcard site has been done, only moving from right to left physically.
They remained at the same slot.
I'm happy it seems to work again, (50fps yippie), but the solution seems questionable.
Thank you all for thinking along!
Lets roll into Pandarian!
