What I want is simple, and cannot get it

All I want is a simple starting set-up... so far all I have been able to accomplish (seemingly) is to trash my window layout ini files for my two characters.

To start I just want to have the windows over-layed ... so I tried the advice in the thread "Swapping to different character" (topic 1952) where you suggested full screen stacked. Sadly, that does not work on my system. I get the export to not try to scale my 1920x1080 default screen size, but the applications when launched come up in some smaller (I don't know how much smaller since EQ does not easily show what it thinks the screen size is) window configuration.

If I did it right the config file XML is at: http://www.privatepaste.com/b21d61d62b

So, the game is EverQuest (Original), two characters to be launched.
I just want to launch two characters in full screen mode with the ability to swap the view between the two characters. Being old, I need all the screen space I can get.

I tried other settings, but, instead of scaling the 1920x1080 image down, it changes the viewport size which messes up my game screen layouts.

So, you say it is simple... I beg to differ ... I spend hours on this ... wiping the configurations, trying exports and play8ing with the alternative settings til I be blue in t'face...

If you can point me the right way, I will move on to the other problems I seem to have with the application. The virtualization may be what I need to avoid disk thrashing during gameplay, but, if I cannot use the monitor I have, then ALT-Tab will ahve to do and I will live with that or go to a two system set-up ... :)

Re: What I want is simple, and cannot get it

I tested the configuration you linked. It is set up correctly. On my computer it does exactly what you described you want it to be able to do: two game windows full screen and I can switch between them with the default ISBoxer Hotkeys of Ctrl+Alt+1 and Ctrl+Alt+2. That is what the Full Screen Stacked Window layout is supposed to do. It looks like you have it set up correctly.

To start I just want to have the windows over-layed ... so I tried the advice in the thread "Swapping to different character" (topic 1952) where you suggested full screen stacked. Sadly, that does not work on my system.

Sadly, there are an infinite number of ways something can "not work". A description of what happens instead, with as much detail as you can give, will probably be required for us to make any progress on this issue.

Your choice of Hotkey for the Next Window Mapped Key may be an issue. I would suggest something other than Ctrl+Tab as that seems to be interpreted by EQ as just Tab unless you release and re-press the Ctrl key.

I'm with Alge. Your Window Layout should be just fine; the game should come up and fill the entire screen, and the in-game resolution should be the same as your screen size. When they "come up smaller", how much smaller? A few pixels less than full screen?

Are you using the current version of EQ1, or by "Original" are we talking about a version of the game from 7-10+ years ago? Old versions of course may behave differently than the new version. (And we don't specifically support "private servers")

Re: What I want is simple, and cannot get it

I took two screen shots to show what it was doing and I am still not sure ... what I *HAVE* discovered is that the maximum allowable resolution EQ has is 1600x1200 which is used to fill the LCD screen's resolution of 1920x1080.

I have dual ATI radeons (5800 series) in cross fire configuration though I do not know if that makes a difference to this...

Trying to force the settings to 1600x1200 in the regions panel does not help. I can send images of the two versions, my native 1600x1200 with the things set the way I want them, and the scrambled version where noting is where it was ... in native form they are pretty big files :

Note taht this is the same mage, in the same spot, and the only difference is that one was with native EQ, the otehr was with isboxer launched version....

Oh, and I would have answered sooner if you had sent the e-mail notification I requested with subscribing to the thread...

Perhaps I am missing a point ... is IS BOxer overriding the 1600x1200 and rendering an actual 1920x1080 screen view?

Re: What I want is simple, and cannot get it

Looking at the ui file for the character it has all the notations as if the screen size is 1600x1200.

I tried making the region size in isboxer that size (using the absurd notion that it might work) with the second region hanging off to the left (Second option down in the list IIRC) so that I would ... in theory have EQ's output mapped to the same size window as it would be displayed in isboxer.

I also get these messages:
Code:
* The ideal resolution for the game to be configured in based on your Window Layout is 1920x1080. Game has window width=1600.
* The ideal resolution for the game to be configured in based on your Window Layout is 1920x1080. Game has window height=1200.

and regardless of my answer I am getting scrambled screen outputs... and as mentionsed somewhere on the site for isboxer, I am sure getting the distorted images of teh characters

Re: What I want is simple, and cannot get it

I have no idea why you are using an EQ UI which is set up for 1600x1200 on a 1920x1080 monitor. However, I suspect that is the cause of all your issues.

When you tell ISBoxer you want it to run EQ in a 1920x1080 sized region it will scale whatever the resolution is set to in-game to be 1920x1080. When you are running EQ outside Inner Space you are probably running it in Fullscreen mode. When you are running EQ through Inner Space you are running it in some sort of Windowed Mode. The different scalings that Windowed/Fullscreen apply to your in-game UI are causing the differences you are seeing.

The best long-term solution to your issue is to change your in-game resolution to 1920x1080 (i.e. make it match your Region size) and then adjust your in-game UI to match that resolution.

Re: What I want is simple, and cannot get it

What I am stuck with is teh video choices under options pre-log in... it is the largest display field I am allowed. This is my ONLY choice as teh otehr display options allowed by EQ are smaller in size. So, it is not so much my voluntary choice, as the only choice allowed to me... 1920x1080 is simply not one of the options allowed by EQ with my graphics cards....

So, your suggestions will not work... I cannot adjust the size... I have simply selected the largest alloable size permitted by EQ ...

Next suggestion?

Get a better GPU. Yes, that is a serious suggestion.
