Corsair Vengeance K90 keyboard

Greetings. I was following the thread in which I use the LavishButtonTester.exe, and I see no input at all from this device. Step Four says:

To see if native support for your input device can be provided:
I have a program that can collect the data required to support this and other devices.

http://www.lavishsoft.com/downloads/Lav ... Tester.exe

4. Press each button in an order that makes some sort of sense -- the program is going to tell you some numbers, in the order your buttons are pressed. If you hit a button and do not see anything happen, the device may be emulating a keyboard at the hardware level, which means it either needs to be reconfigured, or it will not work natively with Inner Space. Otherwise, you should see output like this:

It appears I have a misconfiguration, or it cannot work natively with Inner Space. Is anyone else trying or used this keyboard? I assume this means the G1-G18 keys on the left side of the keyboard will never work with Innerspace, and I should return the keyboard and get a G110 or something right? (I had a G110 and it died, and my local store only had these K90s in stock, so I thought I'd give it a try.)

Thanks for helping a newbie... I'd be happy to perform whatever tests I can to help support a device perhaps others are using.

Re: Corsair Vengeance K90 keyboard

If the buttons don't register there, and don't show up in the Input Device Editor, then it probably won't be natively supported by Inner Space and ISBoxer.

As far as "never", that might be a little strong of a word.

A Logitech G-series keyboard or G13 will certainly work though, yes.

Re: Corsair Vengeance K90 keyboard

Thanks for the quick response!

It doesn't show up (only the only G110 keys and some 652-input device does!) and neither really work with the buttontest.iss file either. So, I'm thinking right now this keyboard's special keys are not supported, and no short term plans to support them either. That's ok, there's a ton of keyboards out there and you can't support 'em all. I'll probably switch back to a logitech as soon as my local store gets one in, or just order online.

Cheers!

Re: Corsair Vengeance K90 keyboard

I did some more research, and am posting just to help other folks who might have a similar issue. The Corsair K90's configuration does have hardware emulation:

Image

Note the "Hardware Playback" in the bottom left corner. Hit the checkbox, then start assigning the G1-18 keys to things like:

G1 -> CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-1
G2 -> CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-2
..
..
G11 -> CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-F1
G12 -> CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-F2
..
G16 -> CTRL-ALT_SHIFT-F6

Now in ISBoxer, you can just press the appropriate G-key for the hotkey, and ISBoxer will interpret that as CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-#.

Now the next trick. If you take a look in the shot above, I've set the delay between each key (CTRL, ALT, SHIFT, #, and the release of each) to 5ms. Now in ISBoxer, you can just press the appropriate G-key for the hotkey, and ISBoxer will interpret that as CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-#. I found that the default of 50ms did not work well with Inner Space or ISBoxer's default settings (too slow, it'd only catch CTRL-SHIFT-ALT), and without a delay doesn't detect it at all.

But I've been running now for a day or two with 5ms, and it works perfectly. I understand it's not native (ISBoxer/Innerspace doesn't realize I'm pressing G1, it thinks I am pressing CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-1), but it seems to work just as well and lets me use the keyboard just splendidly with this wonderful program (thanks lax).

Hope this helps someone else out there. ISBoxer can be a little daunting at first, but once you start tinkering with it, you realize it's a whole new ballgame and a lot of fun to see what you can do!

Also responded to your PM in more detail but...

I am used to the Logitech stuff, like MK710 and then the G110 I had to return (bad key). The K90's keys clear the keyboard base by a good 1/4" -- see below.

That simply takes some getting used to... especially compared to the MK710, whose TOPS of keys are just about even with the keyboard surface.

However, I haven't taken it back yet... I kind of like the way the keys sit, and the G1-18 keys are fantastic, as is the aluminum base. I'm converting, but it's taking some time.
