Low fps in main window

I finally got instant window swapping to work again, but only by starting completely over and starting the wizard from the beginning.

Now, it seems that I get quite a bit of drop in frame rate compared to my experiences with Pwnboxer. I never seem to get over 30 fps, although I specified a higher maximum fps in the settings. I'll keep experimenting to get the frame rate up, but could you give me some tips on what the usual causes for low fps are? I'm playing WoW btw.

http://isboxer.com/wiki/WoW:Quick_Start_Guide#Performance_considerations
One of the things the Quick Setup Wizard sets up is Instant Swap. What this feature does is sync the actual resolution of all of the game windows, such that even when shrunk, the windows are still rendering at the full resolution. This will somewhat reduce your framerate (FPS), but is required to enable Instant Swap and provide perfect mouse broadcasting. If you don't need Instant Swap or perfect mouse broadcasting, a performance increase can be achieved by simply disabling this option in your Window Layout.

To be clear, you don't really need higher than 30 FPS in WoW (not that you cant get it higher), and you can run your background windows at 10-15 FPS without any problems. I drop my foreground window to 30 and background to 15, from the defaults of 60/30. Also, I have no idea what your system is like but if you've got 4+ CPU cores you may get a performance increase by rotating between them. Both of these settings are available per Slot in your Character Set (select your Character Set in the top pane, then each Slot number in the bottom left pane).

It would also be important to mention if you have multiple video cards, or are using multiple monitors on Windows XP. If either of those are true, then there are some other things you would want to avoid doing in order to avoid some performance penalties. Re: Low fps in main window

Ah that's probably it (just read the thing about instant swapping and window resolution). That's a major difference between Pwnboxer and ISBoxer, that window swapping is a LOT better in ISB - probably because Pwnboxer lowers the resolution everytime you send a slave window to the background. It makes it sluggish, but doesn't tank as much on your system.

I really like the instant window swapping thing in ISB, so I'll try and lower the load on the system somehow. Lowering the min/max fps settings is one thing.

If you think about anything else I could do to better things, please let me know.

What's your suggestion for CPU affinity settings? I have 8 cores. The way I set it in PB was 4 cores on the main window and one core each for the slaves. What's your suggestion?

Re: Low fps in main window

Setting the slave windows to 15 fps helped a lot. Also, I set the CPU affinity according to the advice in the thread above mentioned, that probably helped too.

I'm actually about to come out with a revised guide from that with a few more choices and a little explanation to what all that crap
means. Probably within the next week or so...
