abnormally low frame rate

Hi everyone,

First of all, i'm french and my english is very poor sorry. (Thanks google)

I play 4 wizards for a few months and I recently changed graphics card for diablo 3 works best.
But whatever settings I do, my framerate remains abnormally low (~ 20fps) and it freezes a lot...
The solutions that I have read and understand about other topics did not help me, ditto for guides isboxer.com.
It may be that I misunderstood some things.

My config:
intel core i5 750 2.67GHz
GeForce GTX 770
Motherboard ASUS P7P55D
12Gb RAM

current configuration ISBoxer:

Thank you for your help!

Re: abnormally low frame rate

After you installed your new graphics card, did you
1. Download the latest drivers for it?
2. Re-create your Window Layout? (Just use the Window Layout Wizard)

Those are the things that you might need to do after changing your GPU. Other than that, you might want to visit HOWTO: Tweak your framerate; if you still need help, please post a report from the program in the "Identifying framerate bottlenecks" section (this is the section of the page that helps you determine what is slowing your PC down)

Yes I did that several times

I did also

I made 2 reports on Open Hardware Monitor at times when the diablo 3 freeze much.

Re: abnormally low frame rate

Your GPU is maxing out.

File 1:
Code:
| +- GPU Core : 99 30 99 (/nvidiagpu/0/load/0)

File 2:
Code:
| +- GPU Core : 99 37 99 (/nvidiagpu/0/load/0)

The numbers are a %. The one on the left is the current GPU load %, the one in the middle is the average, and the one on the right is the maximum that Open Hardware Monitor saw. 99% means your GPU doesn't have anything left to throw at it, and it's slowing down at this time because of that.

Your CPU cores are only at 75% and RAM at 65% so there is absolutely no doubt that you're maxing out your GPU.

With that in mind, you will want to lower your GPU usage. You can do this by lowering some quality settings in favor of performance. If you have all 4 windows set at maximum quality, of course the game is going to lag when you're in the middle of a huge pack of mobs and throwing out a bunch of abilities with flashy effects (on 4 game windows!). Another way is to reduce the size of your main window (you would do this in your Window Layout), because the larger that is, the more GPU power it takes to render the game (not to mention 4 of them!). Note that the smaller windows are all rendering at the same resolution as the main window (1920x1080) even though they are smaller (960x540).

Another thing you can try is to reduce the overall FPS, but the effects of doing so are relatively limited -- FPS limiting works best when the FPS is too high, not too low. But, reducing the foreground FPS from 60 to 30 will free up some CPU and GPU for the background windows, for example, and reducing the background FPS from 30 to 20 will free up some for the foreground window. You can do this using the CPU Strategy Wizard.

Re: abnormally low frame rate

All quality were already at minimum.

I followed your advice and tried several configuration but the results do not suit me, Diablo 3 always freeze a little and out of sync my wizards when I move

Do you think I need to change processor? Or do I overclock my CPU?

Re: abnormally low frame rate

Freeing up more CPU, or replacing it, is not going to help at all. As I pointed out from your report it is only 75% in use, meaning you have extra CPU resources. Overclocking is going to mean less of your CPU in use, and is going to have no effect on your GPU bottleneck.

You do not have extra GPU resources. Anything you try to change should be GPU related.

Do you have any overrides configured in the NVIDIA control panel? For example, if it's forcing antialiasing to be enabled that's going to drop performance like a rock. (Or if that's turned on in the game...)

Can you show a screenshot of your in-game video settings?

Nvidia Setting:

Diablo3 Setting:
http://hpics.li/ce6172c

It's weird because the first 2 days after installing the gtx770 all functioned well, 60fps and video options near maximum.

Re: abnormally low frame rate

Try changing the game's video mode from fullscreen, to windowed fullscreen and see if that helps

Re: abnormally low frame rate

Okay. Do you have any other programs running that affect game windows? Things with an in-game overlay maybe like X-Fire, Mumble, FRAPS, etc?

Get me "Diagnostics for game crashes" from ISBoxer's Help menu -- http://isboxer.com/wiki/Diagnostics. Yes I know it's not crashing, but this might help identify something else interfering.
