Input/Keyboard causing process slowdown

I originally posted this on the lavishsoft forum since I can reproduce the problem without isboxer, but thought I might as well post it here now.

sodium8301 wrote:I should preface this by saying that these cases I'm unable to replicate the same behavior by launching D3 outside of inner space.

This issue seems to me to be specific to the Diablo 3.exe and inner space. There are two scenarios that are causing problems for me. The first is on the initial press and holding of any key. This is causing the application to essentially lock up and the fps to drop to 0-7. Strangely, I can go ahead and press another key and the application returns to normal.

The second case is when I simultaneously press more than one key. The application performance gets progressively worse I press more keys. 60 fps with 1 key to 25 fps with 2 keys to 7 fps with 3 keys and so on.

Could this be tied to some sort of conflict between the IS key repeat delay and Windows 7's own key repeat settings. I've verified and experimented with the windows settings for those key as well as the inner space settings with only limited luck. This thread is based off of the default settings for both, though.

Please let me know if I might have missed some information or if this has already been addressed in another thread.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

No. Inner Space pulls the key repeat delay value from Windows.

I haven't heard of this happening to anyone else; my first thought is that it's more likely due to other software running on your PC somehow interfering. If you can provide ISBoxer's "Diagnostics for game crashes" from the Help menu (http://isboxer.com/wiki/Diagnostics), that would be a good start

Re: Input/Keyboard causing process slowdown

I would guess it's the compatibility flag that's set, so open up the run command, type in "regedit", and navigate to the following location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers

Remove the entry for Inner Space.

Re: Input/Keyboard causing process slowdown

Windows XP SP3 compatibility flag is definitely an issue and shouldn't be set on Inner Space, but if that doesn't help I just googled for "stij.exe" and it is described to cause an issue with exactly this description.

I found the problem! apparently there was some program running in the background that was causing the problem. :P

Found the problem. It was a keylogger that was taking up CPU space every time I pressed a key. I had to end the process and remove it with an anti-malware program. The executable was named stij.exe
As soon as I ended it, Gmod worked fine.

Hopefully this will help anyone having the same issue.
