Barb + Monk

Heya

I'm new to multiboxing in D3 and I'm haveing trouble getting a Barb + Monk party working without them getting unsynced all the time.

Any tips on what builds that would work well? I've tried tempest rush + ww and they have much difference in run speed. And regular stay in melee range build my monk dies easy on elites and it isn't so effective for my barb.
I just can't seem to find good builds for them. Should I just make it Barb + Barb? I can probably run mp10 arreat 2 rend runs for super fast xp but I'm short on gold for a new barb gear set.
EDIT: I maybe can make a wiz, I have gear for that.

My barb has been may main and is good geared. My monk, not so much but 90-120 ish dps but bad resist 400~.

My box setup it two monitors and one window on each. For setup I just did the quick wizard.

Hopefully someone has some good answers.=)

ps. If this kind of post if not meant to be in this section I apologize.

Re: Barb + Monk

As a noob myself I still have some thoughts/opinions.

From your comment it sounds like you're running 2 characters. I most certainly would NOT run a TR Monk and a WW Barb together. As you've learned, the run speed is to different.

When building a multi character crew you need Run Speed AND Attack speed to be as similar as possible.

Re: Barb + Monk

Yes, that's what I meant in my post. The run/attack speed I know. What I'm asking is if anyone already know some good builds for 1 monk + 1 barb or if it's just not effective even with the dps boost a monk offers.
Something like a HoTA build for barb and some Cyclone monk build. I'm not good that good with monk.

Is dual WW barb with WoTB doable or will there be sync probs? I can do high mp so fury wont be a problem I think.
Dual HoTA barb should be easy on high mp with good gear.
But I really want a monk + a barb to be viable, just need tips on builds that could work well on high mp 6-10.

Re: Barb + Monk

I never even bothered trying to run perma WoTB. I felt it was hard enough to keep track of characters at 24% move speed, or monk TR speed, let alone trying to manage fury on top of it.

Hopefully you get some build suggestions as this forum in general doesn't seem to have a large enough community to get the discussions you and I would like to see.

Re: Barb + Monk

These forums, rightly or wrongly, are mostly used for ISBoxer technical support. Many people only come here when they have a question about how ISBoxer works.

You may get more input on Diablo 3 gameplay or group composition over at dual-boxing.com.

EDIT: I don't mean to suggest that these forums shouldn't be used for game-related questions; only that you may not get much response at this stage.

Re: Barb + Monk

Thank you for the reply, and I hope my previous statement wasn't taken as an offense against the site.

But even your references seem like not many people discuss their strategy

http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums/52-Diablo-3
Has 8 new posts in the new year. And only 1 of those is a build discussion

http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums/31-Mu ... Discussion
Appears more WoW related

Again, I'm not mad or hating on this site or the others. I'm guessing Multiboxers are in the minority.
But the options for character composition, and various configs, seem much more varied then the discussions would infer. But again, that might just be because the community isn't large enough.

Re: Barb + Monk

isboxjelifah, it seems like that's how it unfortunatly is. Well, I'm just gonna lvl a couple of classes and see what I like.
Will probably be Barb/Barb in the end tho unless I find and effective stand still build(Like HoTA barb/Cyclone Monk) with somewhat reasonable WoTB uptime.

And thanks Alge for the links, but like isboxjelifah said it's more WoW and not much D3 talk there. I might try boxing WoW someday so then they will probably be helpful for that so that's nice.

Re: Barb + Monk

Just read this post, hope I can share some insights.

I've also just started multiboxing only couple of months back, and I wanted a synergistic team, although I know there will be challenges in key mappings and char syncing. My barb is main and I would always like him to be around, and as artte has rightly highlighted, monks are very party friendly and definitely barb's best friend. The end result is almost a 100% boost in my barb's dmg when fully buffed by my monk, and my monk gets a 40% increase in armor from my barb, making her able to nearly face tank elites in mp10 while my barb does the main dmg.

It's not a bed of roses for sure. As I mentioned abt the syncing issue, besides having both at +24%ms, when in wotb, the barb still moves faster and that's where the chars may get out of sync, and esp when your monk can be vortex/feared and your barb is immune. Thus keeping perma wraith has never been on my mind too. Another potential issue is the fear factor on EF, which my barb is using. It increases the likelihood that you have to run for the enemy when feared, which is another potential syncing challenge, esp when your barb is in wotb mode. I'm glad my monk isn't using an EF or the whole team will go berserk! Another point to highlight is I seek to remove all forms of knockback, esp on my monk's attacks (there are many monk skills that has the kb factor, esp FoT which many monks use).

Despite taking all these precautions, and utilising some of the cool features in ISBoxer for key mappings, my chars still get out-of-sync at times, but that's when mp10 becomes like mp12 when trying to keep both chars alive during an intense combat. Overall, it's still a very satisfying experience overall in multiboxing multiclasses. Cheers! :)
