Auto swapping regions galore

Until a few months ago my window layouts worked great, then after an InnerSpace patch (can't remember which one) some bad stuff started happening, namely the "only when I press the activate current window hotkey" option seemed to have gone hyperactive and refused to settle down once pressed. As soon as I pressed it once (alt_pageup), the regions would swap continuously and automatically between each other at the speed of light, as if the key was stuck. This happened in Lotro and Eve.

I managed to get it to work again for a 2 character setup (don't ask me how because I tried so many things I can't remember why it finally worked again, I do remember it being very frustrating though).

I just want to have 2 or 3 regions between which I can swap with one hotkey. I use video feeds to view secondary windows and not "traditional" boxes.
Now my working layout for 2 characters is:

Regions:
region 1 at 1920x1080; "on top mode": on, if game win foreground; slot 1
region 2 at 1920x1080; "on top mode": on, if game win foreground; slot 2
region 3 at 1920x1080; "on top mode": off; no slot
Swap groups: Active region: region 3

General:
"use instant window swapping …" checked
"Swap hot char to main": only when I press the Act current…
Focus game windows via mouse …" checked

Rollover: nothing checked

I want to add a 3rd character, so I (naively?) made a copy of the above layout and added a 4th region as follows, but the continuous auto swapping "bug" reared its ugly head again:

region 1 at 1920x1080; "on top mode": on, if game win foreground; slot 1
region 2 at 1920x1080; "on top mode": on, if game win foreground; slot 2
region 3 at 1920x1080; "on top mode": on, if game win foreground; slot 3
region 4 at 1920x1080; "on top mode": off; no slot
Swap groups: Active region: region 4

I'm guessing the "Swap hot char to main: only when I press the Act current…" may not be suited for this kind of setup, does/should it circle-swap between regions on each click (1-2-3-repeat) as I would like?

I also tried disabling the hotkey and using individual slot focus hotkeys through the Character Sets panel. If I click a hotkey for a particular slot the regions will still wildly swap between each other for a few seconds or more before the auto swapping breaks out of its loop. I would like to use a single key though.

Also tried different combinations in the "General" panel of "Character Sets".
Disabled my Logitech G700/G110 software to make sure there wasn't anything sneaky there.

It doesn't seem like a complicated setup to me but I am getting beat up pretty bad by the system.

Help/advice welcome.

To help with troubleshooting, share an ISBoxer configuration where you get the behaviour you have described above.

Re: Auto swapping regions galore

I'm confused as to why you have enabled the "Activate Current Window" Hotkey -- and "Focus game windows via mouse without clicking" with this particular Window Layout.

Honestly I would just use the Window Layout Wizard (from the Wizards menu) and select Full Screen Stacked, and it will generate a working Window Layout of this style for you. Then to achieve swapping with one Hotkey, do this via a Mapped Key. Typically I would say to just set the "Next window" hotkey in your "Always on" Key Map, but you don't have the standards; in your case I will say to create a Mapped Key for Alt+Page Up, and add a Window Focus Action to it (under Window Actions in the Actions list). It will default to focusing the next window ("Rotate Forward").

This will give you your current visual with correct window swapping behavior, and rotating with your one Hotkey. :)

Re: Auto swapping regions galore

Nice, your suggestion seems to achieve what I was looking for.

Actually I now think that the auto-swapping bug I encountered previously my not be related to the auto-swapping I experienced with this particular case, the symptoms were just very similar.

As for having the "Activate Current Window" Hotkey and "Focus game windows via mouse without clicking" checked, I'm probably more confused than you are. As mentioned I had some bad experiences with window layouts after an update and for some reason this setup did what I wanted to without auto-swapping, so I just kept it as is since. Copying & modding it to try to achieve a 3 character version was obviously a bad move though...

Thank you again for your quick replies & to the point advice.
