what is the best way to use area spells that needs mouse

I have startet 3 mages and now i think about what could the best way to use area spells thats needs a mouse click/direction (green circle on the ground) and click.
Is there any way to do this ? I am not sure.

I like to create an action target group, for my ground target toons.
I have my ground click keys on one of: 4, 5, or Shift A.
So have created three ATG's for ground target effects.

Group one is Ground_4.
Group two is Ground_5.
Group three is Shift_A.

On my FTL DPS (Mapped Key #4), I have checked (3rd option from the bottom) 'Send Next Click', with Ground_4 as the target.
I then do the same for 5 and Shift A.

That way, I can have both toons with a ground click and toons without, on the same team.
And the click is only passed to those with the ground click spell.

In actual play:
1. I press '4', which creates a targeting circle on the toons in the Ground_4 group.
2. I move the mouse on the current window, to where I want the spell to be targeted.
3. I observe the targeting circle in each of the windows for toons with a ground target effect.
4. When I'm happy with the area, I click the ground which is broadcast to toons in the Ground_4 group.
5. As soon as the click is made, the mouse broadcast turns off, on its own.
