Is it me or the software? WoW

Hi guys, recently been experimenting multiboxing for almost 20 hours straight trying to make this and that work. Some problems..no luck, some luck solved..and same problems before rebounds.

I've noticed the broadcasting takes a while to simulatenously travel (main) to others, 2/3/4.. and to have to hit broadcast on and off before battle and after battle, switching on repeater when turning in quests, looting.

I can see the benefits of casters from distances, the software does give benefits to them. Like all classes, when your other characters apart from the (main) facings away from NPC's...no simulatenously action is taken place until they are rightly face into position.

I understand i'm still new to this and it seems i may have lot to work on with multiboxing.. but i'm curious, is it me? or does everyone experience this too??????

Would be nice for all characters to all stand and move in the exact same spot as the main..rather than few cm's apart.

Thanks!

Re: Is it me or the software? WoW

Generally, you'll play with Repeater Off and Keymaps On.
And make hotkeys (mapped keys) for the actions you want done.

One of those actions is FTL Follow.
This has all of your slave toons (non-active windows) follow the active toon.
You can move with WASD or with the mouse, and these are not broadcast so they follow just fine.

It might be an idea to create mapped keys for independent slave movement.
Either the arrow keys or the WASD keys is good, whichever you don't use for moving the main.

Repeater on, Keymaps off - Entering passwords, or typing /dance.
Repeater on, Keymaps on - Clicking something, like an accept dialogue box or a portal.
Repeater off, Keymaps on - How you'll play 99.9% of the time.
Repeater off, Keymaps off - When you are chatting with others.

Re: Is it me or the software? WoW

Thanks for the quick response, i'll have a try configurating it. So far, i'm managing okay with repeater, just few things i have to sort out now and again.

I will try this mapping, don't think i've touched this yet in remembering there is lots of configuration i dont know what to do with.

So far, i experimented 5 rogues, managed to get them to level 10-15 in a day.. i put them in pvp and wow...its difficult to regain control when some characters are slowed/frozen, Earthbind, feared. Yikes

Re: Is it me or the software? WoW

I've got some good news :) Still after hours of fixing, tweaking, modifying my own style to how i play.

I've managed to sychronize all my windows, keys, cursor as if i was playing on one character :D

Only one issue and that is the broadcast between my main and the other characters. Is it too much of a problem? not really...but my main pulls off the first move before the others do.

I'm sure thats the same for everyone though, hopefully some day the characters will 100% sychronize in the same spot rather than 2/3/4 characters follow the Main.

If only... *dreams*

Thanks, the software help me achieved this, took a while to configure this and that and get use to.

Re: Is it me or the software? WoW

I don't know what you mean that "broadcasting takes a while" -- it's instant.

What you might be talking about is the time you target something, versus the time your other characters can pick up that new target. This is noticeable and there's nothing you can do about it. Here's why: When you pick up a target on your main, your client sends a message to the server with your new target (unless you are CC'd, in which case your client does not send your new target, which is very annoying!). The server then sends that message to everyone else. So, if your round-trip time to the server (ping) is 1 second, it's going to take 1 second before your other guys can pick up the new target. This unfortunately is not something that can be easily worked around.

Re: Is it me or the software? WoW

Yeah, your spot on :)

Bit off topic now but still relating to WoW and just general multiboxing softwares out there. For those who are bored...continue reading..

NPC's ingame as we know aren't very highly complex...well at least not low level mobs. In PvP, e.g. Warsung Gluch, if i wanted to camp at my roof base, or run about, i have to take consideration of others not lagging behind or getting into position to be to cast. So i thought, more characters = awesome but it backfired, more characters = more burden. lol

Whatever class i choose, i can't seem to find a BEST class. I guess there isn't a best class. I've experimented with 5 rogues, but in PvP was complicated trying to get them all back into position...withint that time, i'd be long dead.

I tried 5 warriors, in the thought of charge would be useful to recruit all my characters together but having to face target was another issue.

I tried a diversity of mage, priest, shaman, warlock and druid and i have to say, diverse is good but also has its downside too.

So right now, i'm 5 warlocks.. with any multiboxing, when my main goes down which he would usually will since hes in front..the rest of my characters goes down one by one.

It's most likely to do with a big change from controlling 1 character and a big jump to controlling 5 characters at once. At the moment, i can play my potential with 1 character in pvp. lol

Has anyone experienced that pvp was difficult to multibox? I suppose shamans have it easy, i've seen alot of shamans multiboxing.

Re: Is it me or the software? WoW

Well, with the FTL (which IS Boxer does automatically for us), any toon can lead as well as any other.
And PiP swaps to the next toon is instant too.

If you're running a flag in WSG, you can pick it up with one toon.
Then PiP swap to another toon... and have the flag carrier in the mass of toons on follow, which makes it a lot harder to target them.
Plus.. if they drop the flag, you're on a toon who can immediately pick it up.

If your team had multiple shammies, you could mouse over Earthbind Totem, and drop it when others were close.
Then PiP swap to the next shammy and drop that shammy's Earthbind at another opportune moment.

For PvP, you'll generally do better with fewer classes then multiple classes.
In general castsequences are not as strong, and therefore the fixed priority of a click castsequence is also not as strong.
The fewer toons you have, the easier it is to micromanage.

Shammies are strong, because of the all the totem buffs.
But each of them can nuke (Elemental), and heal from the same form.
They have mail armor and shields, which makes them the strongest casters vs melee.
Thunderstorm and Earthbind are decent for control.
Fire Elementals get them some strong AoE.
Tremor totems (staggered) make them immune to charm, sleep and fear.
Lava Burst auto crits, when Flame Shock is on the target, and Elemental Mastery makes your next spell instant.
Plus they can purge off buffs, hots etc, to make soften up the target.
Quite a bit going for them.

Another team which is doing very well at the moment...
1x Death Knight (Frost/Blood) + 4x Retribution Paladins.
Pallies Judge Light x2, Wisdom x1, Justice x1, for passive heals from melee.
Their sequence is Crusader Strike, Judgement, Divine Storm, Consecration.
Divine Storm passively heals whoever needs healing.
They have Art of War procs, which can be used offensively (Exorcism) or defensively (Flash of Light).
They get Icy Talons and Horn of Winter from the DK, who can also Death Grip and Snare opponents.
Prior to six months ago, no one had this team... so Shammies aren't the only thing that works, there are other combos to be discovered.

It helps if your PvP team can do PvE as well.
You will gear up faster, via heroic badges then grinding honor.
Probably go for full PvE badge gear first, and once you have that stomp through heroics for badge pvp gear.

For PvE, all you will need is.. a tanking toon.. some form of healing (3x DPS who can heal or a dedicated healer) and everyone else is dps.

Re: Is it me or the software? WoW

Correct, the ISBoxer does have that option but for some odd reason..the hotkey does not seem to work ingame, the rest are perfectly fine. =\ Not sure whats the problem, even when clearing profile from scratch default settings. Still no good.

Atm, i've made macros just to set focus on my main and assist. I still dislike the distance between my characters, it slows me down grr. lol.. broadcasting the keys pressed is awesome, if only they all broadcast together in the same spot and position lol. Hopefully someday..somehow..someone can get this genius thing to work.

Yeah i agree, shamans do have alot going for them and i heard they getting quiet a good change in forthcoming new expansion: Catalysm.. sighs.

Mostly healing classes are the best combo for multiboxing, especially for survival whereas, i'm multiboxing...5 warlocks.. quiet the opposite.

multiboxer vs multiboxer (different classses on both side) i'd like to see that tbh :)

[EDITED] Another question, Is this reasonable distance between main and my other characters whilst running? My ping is 148ms. Apologises for the quality, had to attach it under the required image size..

Re: Is it me or the software? WoW

Follow distance is a game controlled variable.
There's not much we can do with it.

When I five box, the main shows the slaves as being far behind.
Each slave shows themself as being very close to the main.
And displays each of the other slaves as being far behind.

It doesn't look like a particularly long follow distance, at any rate.
The only real problem with follow is if you get too much distance, at which point follow can break.

I found when I upgraded from a Q6600, 8GB ram system, to an i7 920 (stock) with 12GB ram...
It became impossible for follow to break, unless toons got stuck on something, or if Pally with Crusader Aura on was leading.

I would strongly recommend the FTL assist over a Focus based assist.
It leaves your focus free, for PvE crowd control - which will be required in Cataclysm.
It also leaves your focus free, for PvP where everyone sets a focus, and you can nuke/cast at the focus while having no one target that creature/toon.

I've got a low team of 4x Affliction Warlocks + 1x Discipline Priest.
Not really giving the team a lot of time these days.
But they're still there, 22nd I believe.
Affliction has Haunt, Siphon Life as a percentage of Corruption damage, and strong drains... a lot of passive heals.
The team is built for PvP, just trying the other faction.. and selling alliance pets on the horde AH so they'll have epic flyers.
The priest is the weak link so far, but a rez option down the road might be nice.

Re: Is it me or the software? WoW

Should also keep in mind that follow suffers double latency (an important point for us Aussies).

In order for Toon B to follow Toon A, the server has to tell it where Toon A is. If latency is around 300ms, then the packet communicating Toon A's new location takes 300ms to get up to the server, and another 300ms to get back down to Toon B - 600ms or the better part of a second.

I've found under high latency (500ms+) it's possible for a sharp turn to leave a follower stranded when on epic flying mounts at 280% speed. This is particularly so if the lead toon has Crusader Aura and you're travelling at 300%.

For an all paladin team, the solution is to have one of the followers with Crusader set rather than the leader.

Still all in all, only something us Oceanics have to worry about I think.
