dxnothing problems?

I've been experiencing a problem for a while now, that occasionally my windows explorer will just stop working; I cannot alt-tab between applications (games included), and switch to any application on my 2nd monitor is impossible, though everything is still running and functioning (I can mouse over the icon on the taskbar and the windows will pop up, and I can see them working). I run 3 EVE clients on my 2nd monitor, and one dxnothing, all stacked.

What I have been doing is to kill explorer, and whilst it is dead, I am able to alt-tab around between all my applications, including those on the 2nd monitor. What I did today was also kill the dxnothing process, and all of the functionality returned (alt-tab, ctrl-alt-1,2 etc to get to alternate accounts). So, my google-fu isn't turning up much, other than some older posts about fake cursors causing explorer hangs, though that problem appears to have been fixed.

I reinstalled the OS a few days ago (in part because of the problems with explorer freezing), so I don't think it is a problem with the OS (Windows 7x64).

What I have done is create a new isboxer set, without dxnothing, and have had no problems since (admittedly not a long test). This is sub-optimal, because I would like to use dxnothing for video feeds, etc.

What can I do to further debug the problem, or provide more information to help squash any potential problems?

Re: dxnothing problems?

I've never experienced such a problem but I suspect you have some sort of bottleneck on your system. if that is the case, see here for how to determine what that might be.

Re: dxnothing problems?

I thought it was my hardware too; I have had temperature logging apps running, resource monitor running, changed graphics settings, reinstalled the OS. Nothing fixed the problem until I stopped using dxnothing--I havent had a crash or a freeze since doing that yesterday morning (if I have jinxed myself, I will let you know asap).

I am also happy to turn it back on to see if the problem returns, should the need arise.

Thank you for the reply, I do not want to appear ungrateful, but I approached this as a system resource issue from the getgo, and it got me nowhere.

This is a copy of my current configuration. The one that crashes is the 'EVE - Stacked Screen'.

Thanks.

Re: dxnothing problems?

Can you get these Diagnostics too? I'm not exactly sure what process to choose. Probably dxNothing I guess.

Re: dxnothing problems?

Run the crash one, or the freeze one? And want that I should wait until it is frozen, or crashed first?

If it's frozen, then get the diagnostics for game freezes. If not, then don't bother getting diagnostics for game freezes.

Diagnostics for game crashes is more generally useful and provides helpful information about your PC and programs currently running that could potentially interfere. You can get these for us either way

This is a crash diagnostic of the first EVE process while running the EVE-Stacked Screen set.

If you need any other ones, please let me know.

Re: dxnothing problems?

Thanks for the diagnostics. Sadly, nothing jumps out at me from any of that. Yet, there must be some reason why this happens for you and not for anybody else. Is there anything unusual about your system? Have you tried shutting down anything that isn't completely necessary?

Re: dxnothing problems?

So, a week later w/out running dxnothing, and nothing else has changed: no crashes/freezes for the entire week.

Is there any other diagnostic/system info I could pull that would help determine what is causing the freezes? I would like to be able to use dxnothing.
