GPU question / video

I don't think this is a game question, if it is please move the post or note it, I'll re-post.

For reference I play EQ2, when I started I had 1 GPU evga gforce 7XX, I recently purchased a second one. I am still having the same issue.

I'm having an issue with my primary toon lagging out of a zone while boxing.

I've tried to run two different window profiles, 1 monitor primary window with 4 just below it and the second setup; 2 monitors primary window on the first monitor and 4 on the secondary monitor. I have 1 GPU for my primary monitor, and I've plugged my secondary monitor into the second GPU.

When I use the EQ2 client (not boxing) I don't lag out of the exact same zone/place in the world. I tried changing my CPU assignment, primary window has 1-4 and the other 4 windows are managed by the software 5-12 (I have a quad core proc).

I did try a few searches, and I found 1 article on the wiki but yielded no joy .. yet.

thanks in advance for any help

Re: GPU question / video

I'm going to try and clarify some information...

First, if you could define "lag out"? What do you mean by this? You're disconnecting? Crashing? FPS drop? What is happening at this time?

Are you saying that you're able to duplicate the issue when multiboxing in the same location each and every time? Or are you saying that this is a random occurrence and when you try to go back to that same spot when playing solo and you cannot duplicate the issue?

During solo play are you using Inner Space to launch a single character when you attempt to duplicate the issue?

What leads you to believe this is an issue with your GPU? Are you monitoring your hardware when this happens? I think once we get a solid definition of "lag out" this may become clear(er).

Re: GPU question / video

Lag Out - So much input to my local client (isboxer) my character drops from being in the game, to the character select screen. It does seem to lose FPS, and then drop to character select.

In EQ2, I use the preset display settings, extreme performance when I am in this zone regardless of the client. There are a large amount of mobs in a single location. The location is always the same in all of my examples.
When I use the EQ2 client (extreme performance) I am able to sustain my connection in game (to be explicit: always). This is using 1 GPU.
When I use isboxer/innerspace I get dropped to character select every time.

I do not think it is an issue with my GPU, I did think that running 5 instances and netflix all from 1 GPU (2 monitors) might be too much for it to handle, and that was why I wanted to pick up a second GPU, to allow for more than enough resources. The wiki had an article about running 1 monitor per GPU in a non SLI config. This is my current setup 1 GPU per monitor.

additional info - When my primary toon lags out (drops to char select) the other 4 isboxer instances do not drop to char select.

Thank you for the response.

Running all 5 clients manually you mean? and they are all traipsing through the problem area, as they would be if you were boxing it?

GPU evga gforce 7XX

A bit non-committal on the actual model. If it's a 2GB card (or less) you may be hitting a vram limit.

I do not think it is an issue with my GPU

You should go through the motions here http://isboxer.com/wiki/HOWTO:Tweak_you ... ottlenecks and see if anything obvious pops out at you.

If nothing obvious sticks out from your monitoring, see if you can provide a diagnostics http://isboxer.com/wiki/Diagnostics, and perhaps chuck in a screenie or 2 of the system resources under pressure in the "lag out" area.

Thank you for the link, I'll take a look at it and report back.

I was non-committal as I didn't want to give out too much info. They (the GPUs) have 3GB GDDR5.

Re: GPU question / video

Well so yesterday I was able to get into the isboxer chat, and +bob helped me figure out a way to run the zone I was having issues with.

My primary monitor is a is a 30' 2500x1600, so the fix I used was to change the Region size to a 1920x1080 on the primary monitor and I didn't crash to desktop. Not the best case solution but a very viable one.

Thanks +bob and thanks for the assist and vids MiRai

Re: GPU question / video

There must be something else going on, so it is probably worth having a play around to see if you can find it.

For comparison, my standard setup is on a single 7970 3GB card which runs 3 x 2560x1440 monitors.
This is normally has 1 monitor with 6 x 2560x1200 game windows (the remaining 2560x240 is used for a DXNothing and 12+ viewers). I can also run Netflix, and numerous other things (Outlook, Excel, a few systray services), all at the same time.

Re: GPU question / video

Gforce 7xx is pretty meaningless
just a note on the Gforce cards, the first number only applies to which series the card belongs, its the second 2 numbers that indicate the power of the card, oo being very low and no good for gaming, where 90 is at the top end card of that series.

if your running multi monitors, you really need a GFX 770 or above and with that resolution you need a 3/4 gb card
