Activating a dxNothing Window

Hi all,

I am bumbling my way through the recreation of Alge's window layout from the VFX ideas thread. He mentions the following: "I press Ctrl+B and a new dxNothing window appears (I used a second swap group to achieve this)". What action is he using to make a "new dxNothing window" appear? I can see how to make VFX's appear / disappear using Video FX Actions, but I'm not seeing how to make an entire dxNothing window appear / disappear. I'm guessing maybe it has to do with a Window Action, but I'm not quite seeing how to do it with any of those either :).

One other quick question - what action am I looking for to enable the following where he states, "I mouseover one of the small bag feeds and it expands to fill that dxNothing window". Is that a specific action, or a combo of things (e.g. mousing over a smaller VFX actually triggers a different, bigger version of that VFX to show/be created and mousing out then destroys/hides the bigger version?).

Thanks for any pointers,
SFDD

Re: Activating a dxNothing Window

Alge is awesome and will probably answer this himself when he gets time, but I think I can basically cover it.

1. He can't create a "new" dxNothing window, it's part of his Character Set. His Window Layout has 2 "Swap Groups" in it; Swap Groups are groups of Regions that, for Window Swapping purposes, operate mostly independently of each other. By putting 2 dxNothing windows in a second Swap Group, he can swap between those the same way you swap between your windows now -- one could be big and one could be small, one could be completely behind the other ("Stacked") and so on. Then, a Window State Action can be used to perform the swapping.

2. You should be able to change a Video FX Viewer on the fly using a Video FX Action set to Create. It should replace the existing viewer with the new one (of the same name). So, this could be done with a Mapped Key with 2 Steps, set to Pressed OR Released, configured as the Mouseover for the Video FX Viewer. Mouseover will "press" when the mouse enters the Video FX and "release" when it leaves. A Video FX Action in Step 1 to make it bigger, and a Video FX Action in Step 2 to make it smaller should do. :)

Re: Activating a dxNothing Window

Thanks Lax. :)

1. Yes, that "new" dxNothing window is in my Character Set and the Region it normally sits in is behind my other stacked Regions. The second Swap Group is used exactly as described.

2. What Lax describes is what I did as well.

I would add that the thread you are using for inspiration is from the very early days of Video FX (while they were still called Video Feeds) and was really just about ideas and pushing the envelope with this amazing new tool Lax had provided us. I don't use a setup like that any more; it was very fiddly to set up and use.

I still use a stacked full screen Window Layout and an extra dxNothing window to hold the Video FX viewers of my slaves as in the first screenshot in that thread but I don't go to the extra trouble of separating bag Video FX Viewers into a separate dxNothing window. Instead I just quickly change between characters these days by having the Hotkey for the Next Window Mapped Key set to Ctrl+MousewheelUp. If I were going to create Viewers for my bags I would just do so on my main monitor, right in my main window, and have a Mapped Key to toggle those Viewers on and off (2 Step Mapped Key using Video FX Actions to hide/show the Viewers).
