Is continuous cycle window swapping possible?

With 4 characters, can you set swapping up in a way that would allow me to press a single key to go to window 2, then 3, 4, and back to 1 again? And just keep cycling as long as I keep pressing the key?



I thought this was how the "next window" mapped key worked, but it doesn't appear to be doing that. With my 4 character layout, the next window key doesn't do anything when I press it from my main #1 window. But if I'm on window 2, it will advance to 3, then 4 and back to 1, but then it stops. I was wanting to set it up in a way to do continuous cycling through the windows 1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4 if possible.

If this is doable, how should I set it up?

That is what Next window does, yes. However, it is going to try to cycle ALL of the windows, and you might have extra processes in the rotation. You can use the filter option in the Window Focus Action to set it to something like "(is1,is2,is3,is4)&all" (Advanced Target mechanics)

Follow up question - is there a way to filter so it keeps cycling even if one of the windows get closed?

I set this up and it worked as long as I had all 4 windows open (is1, is3, is3, is4), but sometimes I only need 3 characters so I closed the 4th window and then the cycling got stuck on window 3. It couldn't find is4, so it stopped instead of skipping it and starting over again with is1. I looked over the link you sent and saw the asterisks part, so I was thinking of setting it up to filter (is*), BUT I have an is5 window for video feeds that I don't want it to cycle to. So is there a way to do a filter with an EXCLUSION? Like cycle between any and all "is" windows (regardless of how many are open at the time) but always skip over is5? Or is there an easier way to accomplish what I'm trying to do?

Hope I explained that well enough. And Lax, thanks as always for the help. The "(is1,is2,is3,is4)&all" filter you posted works perfectly when I'm running 4 characters.

My suggestion would be to have different Character Sets for when you wanted a different number of windows. Then you could use Mapped Key Virtualisation to automatically swap in the appropriate Mapped Key with the appropriate number of slots for that Character Set. You would need to set up multiple Mapped Keys for window cycling, i.e. one with is1 through is4 and another with 1s1 through is3 for example.

Thanks for the suggestion Alge, I went back in today to attempt this, but I noticed it was working correctly now.

If I drop character 4, it will cycle 1,2,3,1,2,3 and so forth, so on. It just takes a minute to register that the 4th character is no longer there. I guess I didn't give it enough time the first time I had this problem. I went back and tested it some more by dropping characters 2 and 4, then it would continuosly cycle between 1,3,1,3...

So this is great and just what i wanted.
