Re: Melee and casters in same group

Okey, I think I got that to work now. Pressing "g" now makes all ranged (healer, mage and hunter) to stop following and my tank + dps warrior can run and face the mob. Next step is to figure out how to dps other than just autoattack.

I got a few questions, big surprise eh? SInce I'm pretty bad at this tech stuff all understanding what that fancy stuff you throw at me, I'd appreciate if it could be done step-by-step.

How do I make a working macro so that when I hit "1", my dps toons will start dps'ing the mob?

What I see right now is that my hunter uses auto attack and arcane shot (instant spell) but my mage does nothing, because if I hit "1" before he finish his fireball spell, it cancel the one he's currently channeling. I tried to make a castsequence macro in wow and place it on the actionbar, but it doesn't seem to change anything. I *think* the reason this happens is something Ualaa's link does for my p buttons, because if I use m mouse to click fireball while channeling a fireball, it won't get interrupted. So I'm probably doing something wrong.

I like your idea for a setup Alge where I have one key for dps, one for aoe etc, that's what I'm trying to accomplish as well. By pressing "1" and keep smashing it, I'd like my hunter, warrior and mage to run a sequal of skills/spells that they use. Is it possible? :)

Any help, as always, would be greatly apreciated.

Re: Melee and casters in same group

These three threads are a good place to start:
http://www.dual-boxing.com/threads/3263 ... ing-Macros
http://www.dual-boxing.com/threads/3245 ... ing-Macros
http://www.dual-boxing.com/threads/3387 ... cros-at-85

They use a two-step approach, which is described in the first thread.
Essentially, you have a sequence on button 1, which will not lock up ever.
And a set of procs, or temporary/short term buffs, spells etc... on button 2, which can lock up.
If they were combined into one macro, your sequence would lock up at points... but by alternating between the two, you never lock up.
And get your procs from the second sequence often.

If your spells are being interrupted on the caster...
You likely have some form of movement (forward step, backward step, strafe left or right), which is also firing off.
Even if the movement is minute, it is interrupting the casts.

Your melee stuff would fire off fine, as would instant (or non-channeled) spells or hunter shots.
But anything with a cast time would be interrupted.

Agree here. Most likely you have your IWT mapped keys (which include that slight backwards movement) being called by your FTL DPS mapped keys (but I am not at my normal computer to check your config atm).

Re: Melee and casters in same group

Heya!

Well, I did shadowfang keep today, with success I might add. I want to thank you all for your patience and help. Much appreciated.

So..just to stay true to..well myself, I have a follow up question:

How do I make my mage and hunter cc one target each, and preferably, how can I have my mage keep focus on his target to re-sheep him when I engage on the mob that was frozen by the hunter?

Again, step-by-step is preferred as..well, anything else will fail :s

Example:
A group of 4 mobs. What I'd like to accomplish is for my hunter to drop a trap to freeze one of them and my mage to have a focus target for polymorph. I will then pull the mobs and beat down the 2 not cc'ed, then I'll pull the frozen mob. By then i will most likely need the mage to re-sheep his mob, but also keep dps'ing the mob we're fighting. Last we will beat up the poly-mob.

How would I go about doing that? I am not very good with focus thingy, so a thorough explanation would be awesome if anyone can find the time to help me with this.

Re: Melee and casters in same group

I'm not so sure about the hunter, but for the mage the easiest way is probably to do the following.

1. Create two macros in WoW for your mage character:
Code:
/focus party1target
/script SetRaidTarget("target",6)

and
Code:
/stopcasting
/cast [@focus] Polymorph

2. Place those macros somewhere on an action bar in WoW and note the key binding for each macro.

3. In ISBoxer, in the General Key Map make two Mapped Keys:
a. Mapped Key 1 should contain a single Keystroke Action, which has as its Target whichever Character Slot contains your mage and has as its Key Combination the key binding of the first macro above. Then set the Hotkey for this Mapped Key to some combination of keys you want to be able to press from your main window to make your mage assist you and mark and focus your target.
b. Mapped Key 2 should also contain a single Keystroke Action, which has as its Target the mage's Character Slot and has its Key Combination as the key binding of the second macro above. Then set the Hotkey for this Mapped Key to some combination keys you can easily press in combat if necessary to re-sheep the mage's focus target.

Save, export and test.

Some notes:

  • The first macro assumes the your active window is the party leader.
  • Change the number in the first macro to get a different symbol.
  • There are ways to put the macros in ISBoxer but they are more complicated, i.e. they would take me longer to explain
