advices on a new rig

hi :)

i recently started multiboxing in diablo3 with 4 chars. now after 2 weeks i recognize that my actual system
might be a bit too old. most parts are bought in 2007/2008

this is my actual system:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450
Gigabyte P35-DS3P
8gb ram (4x2gb)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti
ADATA SSD S511 120GB
2 500gb HDD
be quiet 600w (not completely sure about this)

The system has not been overclocked from me.

Diablo Settings on all 4 Windows:
Fullscreen (windowed), low FX activated, rest disabled.

ISBOxer Settings:
All Cores are assigned to all windows, foreground and background fps is set to 30 on all windows.

Here is a log from openhardwaremonitor. I played two rifts during this time. fps are mostly between 5-20
not really playable.

i would like to have some advice on upgrading this system. I dont want to overclock hardware myself so i dont need something like a i7 4770k. i'm fine with keeping the graphic details in diablo on the low side, as long as the fps goes up to 20-30fps on all windows and stay smooth in this range.

i already looked a litte bit for upgrades and got my eyes on this stuff:

Intel Xeon E3-1240V3 or 1230V3
Asrock H87 Performance

Is this CPU sufficient or do i need something better? 8GB RAM or better 16GB?
Can i keep my old GPU or do i need to upgrade the 560ti as well?

i hope i didnt forget something important :) good night and thanks in advance

Re: advices on a new rig

A quick reply...

  • Yes, a CPU with hyper-threading is more beneficial than one w/o when multiboxing D3.
  • According to your OHM report 8GB of RAM is cutting it close and you'd probably be better off with 16GB.
  • You'd probably want an nVidia GTX 760 (or equivalent) for 4-boxing D3.
  • Depending on how old your PSU is it may not be able to handle newer hardware.

thanks for your reply mirai :)

so a xeon e3 1230 or 1240 would be enough since it has hyper threading right?

Depending on how old your PSU is it may not be able to handle newer hardware.

thanks for this information. i will pay attention to this before i buy the new hardware.

I imagine so. I'm not entirely familiar with how those lower-end Xeons compare to their desktop counterparts. I know that people buy them because they're slightly cheaper, but you will never be able to overclock it.
