Performance issues with ROS

Perhaps slightly off-topic, MiRai, but would you recommend swapping from a single AMD card to a SLI setup, generally speaking? Referencing your 'performance will vary from game to game' e.g. is it ever more trouble than its worth? Is performance ever worse with SLI? I have a single 7970 right now, but if SLI works in windowed mode, I might consider going back to the world of Nvidia and SLI, since my main gaming application is boxing. Whenever I upgrade again.

Also, in that screenshot, what program is displaying the GPU usage? I very very occasionally have lag issues in D3 that I'm fairly certain are GPU related, but I remain uncertain.

Before replying to your post I had recently begun moving away from SLI when multiboxing for various reasons, but specifically in D3 because I was getting choppy performance when enabling it (while multiboxing). However, my choppiness was caused because of my custom video settings and, earlier today, nVidia released a new driver that is supposed to show improvement for D3 when using SLI.

So, in the middle of writing this reply I upgraded to 337.50 to see how my custom settings would fare, and they seem to work alright with SLI enabled (http://i2.minus.com/i6Roq5jwYk9YB.png). The screenshot may not tell a lot, but I figured I would throw it up there anyway. This means I may have to move back to SLI while playing D3 in order to avoid the cross-monitor performance hit with my dxN windows. Don't mind the odd load across the GPUs in the screenshot, it's caused by my custom settings and if I disable them then the load balances fine (http://i3.minus.com/imzjCB0Wfo8XE.png).

Is performance ever worse with SLI?

It can be, but it's unlikely; although, it does depend on how you define worse. If you don't like the microstutter that inherently comes with multi-GPU setups, then you might not like SLI, but when playing solo, SLI is rarely an issue -- Only when an SLI profile doesn't exist for the game or when you're playing with a quad-SLI setup can you expect there to be an actual loss in performance. However, when multiboxing, it can be hit or miss and I always tell people to try and multibox on a high-end, single GPU before they jump right into the idea that SLI is the answer.

Guys, I have a second monitor now and looking to power the second monitor with my second 7970m graphic card which cureently doesnÄt get utilized. Can someone please explain to me how to do it? Here is my current setup:

2. Run the Window Layout Wizard.
3. In the Properties box under multiple monitor, set Cross-monitor swapping to FALSE. You want to do this because you cannot allow game windows to cross from one monitor (GPU) to the other monitor (GPU) without a significant performance penalty.
4. Choose a layout that places the windows on different monitors. You can drop down "Swap groups" to pick the number of game instances on each monitor.

I'm pretty sure in order to use the video output on the second video card for the second monitor, Crossfire has to be disabled.
