[EQ1] System Lockup Since Last IS Patch

Been using ISB/IS for a while and on EQ1 for the last month. Since I moved to EQ1 the system would lock up once every few days.

Since the last IS patch a few days ago my system locks up within 3-4 minutes of being in the game. (screen and PC freeze and I have to do a hard reboot).

All client accounts are set to windowed mode.

As an aside I've always the problem with the mouse misaligning with the screen with EQ1. At the top of each client screen the mouse would point in the right place, but on random client instances the mouse would be verticallt misaligned increasingly as you moved down the screen, up to about a centimetre off on a 27" monitor.

I've found that going into options selecting full screen mode and then back to windowed mode fixes this (edit for clarity : this means go into options in the EQ client with the issue).

I'll check out the cursor issue, but if your system freezes it's highly unlikely to be related to IS (especially since you have more than one CPU core). It's generally going to be drivers or hardware. Probably hardware, but try updating your video card drivers first and get HWMonitor from http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html to watch your temperatures. Any of the RAM, CPU or Video Card temps are the usual suspects, so keep an eye on them.

I'd updated to the latest drivers in an attempt to fix the issue, but it hasn't worked (so it's not purely an issue with the new drivers is my point).

It could be a coincidence that this became a major problem at the same time as the latest IS patch. The symptoms DO suggest temperature problems, but it's an Antec 1200 case, with lot's of custom cooling, so doubtful that's it. Maybe a graphic card issue. Its an XFX 4890, only a few months old, so has plenty of oomph, but maybe faulty, I guess.

I'll try the older version of IS and if that doesn't work I'll take the side off the case.

It's not a temp problem. Spent an hour giving the system a thorough clean and ran the test - GPU was at 64C and CPU cores at around 40C next crash.


I wonder if it could be something as simple as the 'No Patch' option in the Quick Wizard setup in ISB for the EQ client boot. The EQ client seems to be downloading a few files every time it boots - something dumb that Sony introduce into the boot process every now and again. ( EQ has had a couple of patches this week).

Ran the ISB set up quick wizard again, didn't select the No Patch option and no longer getting any crashes.

Now I did this the last two days, they worked for a day, but each time I had to run the Wizard again.

I'll update this if I can find anything else to report.

Once again the Character set I created which worked fine last night is not stable today. PC locks up within 2 - 3 minutes of clients booting.


Create a new Character set and it's stable.

Same every day this week. Very strange.

I'm not sure how else to help with the lockups exactly, the things I mentioned pretty much sum it up (drivers, hardware/temp, previous IS version). As far as hardware, it could be pretty much anything -- video card, RAM, could be memory timings in the BIOS, etc. Hard to say really. Sometimes Windows will pop up a box after you reboot saying there was an unrecoverable error or something, that could be useful obviously.

The good news is .. cursor issues should all be fixed in the current development build of Inner Space (5302) as of today. To try the dev build, right click on IS, select Patcher, check "Download development (test) patches" then close and restart IS.
