Here's what I do and I'd be interested if anyone else has any tips/suggestions.
On my non-main clients, I turn off music and voice volume altogether. I set ambient volume to about 50%, then I jack up the effects volume to 100%. This makes it much easier to hear that distinctive sound of a legendary dropping on those clients while boxing.
Secondly, I create video source feeds on each of my non-main clients on the mini-map. Then on my main screen, I create a video viewer of each client's mini-map and put it in an easy to see location, like around the top of my screen or wherever. As you know, when a legendary drops, you get a big orange star on the mini map, and this will catch your eye if you can see everyone's mini maps. Always make sure to watch each video feed closely after an elite, champion or boss fight. If you're running a stacked layout, you could even create a dxNothing window on a secondary monitor and stretch the mini maps out to where they were very large and the orange star would DEFINITELY be seen when it appeared.
As far as normal rare (yellow) items, after an elite, champion or boss fight I will swap to each instance and see if there's any i want to pick up like a ring, amulet or one-hander. But I never check my client machines on trash.
Also, kinda unrelated to "loot" but worth mentioning, i try to gear each of my clients with pickup radius gear for gold. That way I know I'm pretty much getting all of it just by normal playing.
Hope that helps!
