No audio in LOTRO

I have been using ISBoxer for a couple of weeks and have been very pleased with the product so far. Today, audio quit working in LOTRO when using ISBoxer. It works fine if I launch LOTRO without ISBoxer, but I hear no sound when launching with ISBoxer.

To fix this, I went as far as deleting all LOTRO configuration data (including the “My Documents\The Lord of the Rings Online” folders and all user-preferences.ini files) and uninstalling ISBoxer (after backing up my work, of course). I launched LOTRO standalone to recreate the data folders, and verified that the sound works. Next, I reinstalled ISBoxer and created a new character set (with only one character in the set) using the Quick Setup Wizard. I launched the character set with InnerSpace, but still there is no sound. I verified that the LOTRO audio settings (Options > Audio) match the working standalone configuration, but still no audio when using ISBoxer.

Any suggestions on what could be causing this problem, and what I can do to resolve it?

Re: No audio in LOTRO

Check the Windows Volume Mixer and make sure they're not muted. If you enable the "Mute background game window audio and un-Mute foreground window audio" option in your Character Set, then the ones in the background should be muted, but it will un-mute the one in the foreground. (Note that while no games are the active window, there is no foreground game window to un-mute..)

Re: No audio in LOTRO

Thank you Lax for taking the time to answer. I appreciate your attention to the users of the ISBoxer and InnerSpace products.

I have concluded that the problem is not with InnerSpace or ISBoxer.
If I launch LOTRO *without* Administrator privileges, it works fine. If I launch LOTRO with "Run as Administrator", the audio does not work.
This problem is preventing me from using ISBoxer, and I'm not sure how to fix it. I welcome any suggestions.

Re: No audio in LOTRO

That's interesting.

I would assume, then, that your audio has some control software that is running on your PC, and it is running without Administrator privileges. If you can identify which software that is, and run it as Administrator, then it should begin to work.

Re: No audio in LOTRO

It is still a mystery to me why LOTRO no longer has sound ONLY when run in Administrator mode. It was working fine, then just all of a sudden quit.
Ultimately, I solved the problem by installing a Sound Blaster card, and using that instead of the one built into the motherboard.
Again, thanks for your help, Lax.

Re: No audio in LOTRO

This has happend to me too some days ago.

As usual i logged in my 6 clients and later i noticed that the 4th client didn't "dinged" when someone messaged him.
I checked my options and noticed that my standard sound output device was not listed in this client! Instead LOTRO choose the next device in the list, in my case some Virtual Audio Cable Line.
All other LOTRO clients had the correct device listed.

I have a Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4P mainboard with onboard realtek chipset and in the UserPreferences.ini it is listed in [Sound] as: SoundFeatures=Generic Software on Lautsprecher (Realtek High Definition Audio)
After closing the 4th client this line was altered to something like: SoundFeatures=Virtual Audio Cable Line 4

In ISBoxer "Mute background game window audio...." is not checked although i use Sound Actions on a Timer, but at the moment when i noticed the missing sound i didn't think about those. And sadly i wasn't able to reproduce this. Seems like a rare case when LOTRO is unable to find/initialise the default sounddevice.

Lax, some hints what i could do when i observe this again?

I have nothing else to add at this time beyond my previous post:
