tesla WW-Barb Guide

Tesla WW-Barb

Hi All, this is a guide for those who want to do WW-Barb and taking advantage of the legendary Schaefer's Hammer.
On another thread I posted this video of my alk run: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXWtIn-Q6r4, and vs mp10 elite http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGVF-HxNETY
I fixed the issue of having one guy lag behind. This run is a modified alk route, the only difference is instead of the bridge, I use Rakkis:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPq48NqIUeI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kovTRUisr1s

Pros:
1. It's an efficient build. (It's efficiency depends on how much you want to spend on your characters)
2. It can clear an Alk run around 15mins in mp0.
3. Relatively cheap to gear.
4. It deals heavy damage even when you are frozen or any cc and with those damages, you are able to heal with LS on your belt. This is through the Shafer's Hammer proc. I'll explain later. (You can encounter an elite pack and leave to grab a drink or whatever and comeback with the elites dead EXCEPT those with arcane affix). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOM86atLDEg
5. It has the ability to leave nados as you push forward and at the same time it gives you a range damage infront of you when your hammer procs.

Cons:
1. It's a melee build and you are always in harm's way.
2. Prone to CC and can get scattered often but there's a technique to reduce the frustration. Explained later.
3. Constant regrouping but again, there's a technique to reduce the frustration.
4. A bit awkward to brake. You need to cast rend to stop moving.
5. The weapon of choice can only roll 1 affix.

SKILLS:
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/b ... ZYh!bZZYZb

Basically, you need the base skills for WW-Barb: Whirlwind(Hurricane rune), Battle Rage(Into the Fray rune), and Sprint(Run like the WInd rune).
I don't use WOTB in the lower MPs because it is hard to sustain.

The other skills I use which are optional are:
Rend(lacerate rune) - this good for runners and overall elite killers. Use Bloodlust rune if you're low on EHP.
Overpower(Killing Spree rune) - it adds a good amount of dps and does a decent damage when you are surrounded. *In this slot, one of my character uses Warcy(Impunity Rune) to increase survivability.
Threatening Shout(Grim Harvest rune) - This one helps with gold income and reduces damage.

I used leap with stun before but personally I prefer the other 3 skills.

Passive Skills:
Ruthless, Weapons Master, and the most important one is Unforgiving passive. Together with a 5 IK set, Unforgiving passive takes care of your fury problems.

HOW TO GEAR:

This build incorporates the Schaefer's Hammer into the WW-Barb build so I'll start with the weapon.

Schaefer's Hammer:

DPS - look for 1000+ dps when buying. 1100+ dps starts to get pricey.

This weapon can only roll 1 affix. For us barbs, we're going to look for CRIT DAMAGE affix.
+150% CD is a good minimum. 175% CD starts to get pricey.

The other important affix in this weapon is the "% chance to be protected by Lightning when you are hit."
Look for 40% or more. The max roll is 50%. 45%+ starts to get pricey.
What this affix does is when you get hit(melee, range, or any elemental damage) it triggers 3 lightning pulses around your character that deals damage of about 50k minimum to 150k maximum when it crits.
So imagine having all 4 of your characters pulsing with this damage altogether. Then add rend damage. Then add the WW damage. Its a quick elite kill. :)

There are several ways to increase the damage of this pulse.
Through stacking your main stat which is STR.
Crit Damage+(Crit Chance)
Stone of Jordan ring. The 20-30% elite damage and I think the +lightning affix adds to the damage too.
Average Damage/Min.Max Damage (found in rings and ammys) - this is just my speculation but I think this affix adds damage as well. I'll see if I can do some tests with this affix.

Note that Attack Speed Increase does not affect the pulses.

Shopping Tip: as of this month (01/2013) you can get a Schaefer with 170%CD and 45%+ proc for about 20mil or less (cheaper than one Radiant Star Emerald). There are 50-100mil listed but its not selling, they're overpriced. If you have patience, wait for a good deal.

IK Set:
The full set is necessary to address the Fury issue. It's up to you how much you spend on your gear but I find it enough to buy a cheap set when doing mp0 runs only.
Ofcourse, on your helm, you need crit chance, and on your gloves you need crit chance and crit damage.

Now, to take advantage of multiboxing in terms of gold pickup, you need to stack "Pickup Radius" wherever you can. It will add initial costs but in the long run, it will pay for itself especially when your at the higher paragon levels. I have about 35 PUR on my main and still working on my other character. Refer to this if you want to stack PUR: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/arch ... o/11722249
I get 2mil per hour just with the gold pickup alone.

Rings & Ammy:
Make sure you get crit chance and crit damage on these. Also, I buff my EHP with rings and ammy.

Shopping Tip (minimum value):
Rings: Look for STR(50), VIT (50)/Life%(8), All Resist(45), CD(30), and Crit Chance(4). It's possible to get one for 20mil or less. More than 20mil is overpriced.

Shoulder:
Get one with PUR + the typical stats.

Pants and Bracer:
You either get an Inna's pants or a Lacuni Prowlers for the additional movement speed.

MOVING: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMkZ7tAdgXY
The way I setup my group, I assigned/bind the button "` or ~" (its on the left of your "1" button) as MOVE for all 4 of my characters on Key 1.
On Key 2, each MOVE button are different for each character. The way I setup mine, I have my main as button "A" and the rest are buttons "S, D, and F." The reason why I have different button for each is so I can reallign them while moving or while fighting elites with nightmare, knockback, affix etc. It saves time looking for a corner or an edge to regroup. Regrouping becomes second nature when you get good at it. (note: when you have stacked windows like me, I have alt + A or S or D or F to switch to corresponding character's window)
I have "TAB" as my "Force Stand Still" command.
So when moving all of my character I just press"`or~" then to stop I hit "TAB," this triggers Rend as well.

ROUTE:
As I discussed earlier, I use a modified Alk route. Rakkis instead of the Bridge (Fields of Slaughter).

Core->Tower of the Damned->Arreat Crater 2->Keeps 1->Rakkis.

Rakkis is better than the Bridge because its more linear and has more mob density.

END

Thats pretty much it. Hopefully it will help someone. Let me know if you have any question. I'll try to make a video of this writing so it will be easier to digest.
btw, try to aim for under 17mins per run. If you have any tips or suggestion to improve this build, please do tell.
Thanks for reading.

Re: tesla WW-Barb Guide

What is the DPS of your barbs? I've gone the skorn route and am sitting 100-110k each, took 30 million to gear 4 characters so that wasn't so bad. If i go with the weaopn you're using I think i would lose 30k dps on each character, so if you're sitting at 70-90k right now I might be able to adopt your strategy.
