Random Keyboard issue with Inner Space loaded

So over the last week and a half or so I have been having a problem with my keyboard randomly locking up and repeating keys over and over. I was using a Logitech G110 keyboard, and I did a little research and it seemed like Steam was the culprit. http://forums.logitech.com/t5/G-Series-Gaming-Keyboards/Logitech-G110-Keyboard-Freezing-Stuck-keys/td-p/922294/page/7 Thats a URL to the discussion I stumbled upon over at the logitech forums.

SO after shutting of steam this was still happening. Very frustrating to say the least because every 5-10 minutes the keyboard will lock up on a keypress (ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss) for example and the only way to remedy this is to unplug the keyboard and plug it back in. So I since then swapped out the keyboard to a basic microsoft keyboard assuming hey, even though the logitech keyboard is new it could be bad. However the problem still exists with the microsoft keyboard.

So today after really racking my brain I asked myself what else could be causing it and the only thing I can think of that has changed at all recently (albiet through updates) is ISBoxer and Innerspace. I'm not saying it is for sure, but hopefully Lax can help shed some light on if this might actually be the case and how I might rectify it since he does provide some godly support on these forums.

Thanks for your time and I appreciate your responses.

Re: Random Keyboard issue with Inner Space loaded

Unless it's only happening within ISBoxer Toolkit, Inner Space, or games launched within them, I will have to say that Inner Space definitely isn't causing this problem.

From my point of view, it sounds like your keyboard is physically damaged, like maybe something got spilled on it, or it has a bad wire or connection internally. It doesn't sound to me like a software issue.

Re: Random Keyboard issue with Inner Space loaded

I would agree with you Lax that it sounds like a keyboard issue unfortunately I've tried two different keyboards different usb ports the whole meal deal. The only time it happens is after ISBoxer is loaded / running.

The other one wasn't also a G110 was it? ;)

The only time it happens is after ISBoxer is loaded / running.

ISBoxer only affects the current process, which is why I'm saying that if this bug happens outside of processes it loads in, then ISBoxer and Inner Space are ruled out...

In ISBoxer's Help menu select "Diagnostics for game crashes", get me these diagnostics from pretty much anything (e.g. a game), paste here. This should provide information on other running programs and other modules that might be loading (potentially including malware).

The other one was a logitech g110, the new one is a microsoft wired keyboard 600.

Re: Random Keyboard issue with Inner Space loaded

http://steamcommunity.com/groups/bigpic ... 629137503/ is a link to someone describing DirectInput being related to the issue. Does ISBoxer utilize input at all?

Durning my own troubleshooting like I said I've tried multiple other solutions (including the keyboard on another computer) but the only time that these lockups occur is when Innerspace is actively loaded into memory. I turned off Innerspace and the issue isn't occuring anymore.

Not that I am blaming your software, I am just stating that currently that is my only indentifying factor in what is running while the keyboard glitches that isn't running now that it isn't happening again.

Re: Random Keyboard issue with Inner Space loaded

Ummm... interesting. Sadly not enough technical information in that thread to code a solution.

Inner Space does use Direct Input device enumeration, when the process is started. I might have to order a G110 in order to find a fix...

DxDiag also uses Direct Input device enumeration, try running that and see if you get the same symptoms. Fun related fact: on Windows XP, a Steel Series Shift keyboard will cause DxDiag to crash immediately. When I asked Steel Series about it, they blew me off and said their drivers passed all the WHQL tests (which apparently didn't include not crashing Direct Input).

Re: Random Keyboard issue with Inner Space loaded

Yeah I guess an OS reload is called for in this case because not only is this a new thing that is unexplainable for the most part other than common factors. It really is crippling to the point where I can't play or even regularly use the computer without having quick access to unplug and replug-in my keyboard.

Re: Random Keyboard issue with Inner Space loaded

I might have found the solution. So far 30 minutes of operation with no interruptions after changing the USB selective suspend option option in the power saving settings. This was set to enabled, now that it is set to disabled I seem to be having no issue. Before I couldn't even make it through a post of this size without the keyboard either locking up on me or locking repeating a key (ssssssssssssssssssssssss behavior). While I thought this could be related to Direct Input and something to do with ISBoxer with Lax's advice I ran dxdiag and the same behavior happened. So while it might be direct input that exhasperates the issue it seems to be that power saving setting that causes the keyboard issues.

I will report back if I have any othe rproblems, but this has been ruled out as an ISBoxer issue.
