What's happened to referrals?

I used to be able to hand out a referral/friend link using my account name in the URL but now the account page only mentions referring by email.

Personally, I don't want to hand out my real email address to someone I've just met in-game that shows an interest in boxing and ISBoxer.
Can we now only refer by email?
If that's the case, I'll swap to using a hotmail for my ISBoxer account but thought I'd check first.

Username and previously existing referral links still work.

As the Friend Code page suggests you will be able to use a code instead of your username or e-mail address in the future.
