Too choppy trying to play 4, any tips?

Really want to make multiboxing work on this game but right from the get go running into stutter issues running 4. I get them all loaded and have tried different screen variations including 4 screen stacked. Set all their fps max 30. Lowered all graphics setting to absolute lowest and no dice. It's fine up until I fight more than one mob. I run an i7 with 12 gigs of ram, I think maybe because my video card is a bit dated it is causing this. Wondering how others are running.

Also tryig to keep them together even without stuttering was tedious. Really trying to wrap my head around the looting issue if I have to have the screens stacked. I don't have my video card specs on hand but I think it's a nvidia 600 series. Sorry on my phone and moving at the moment, but my mind is on the game and really want it to work! For old times sake.

Try using the GPU wizard to set different settings. I use all cores on all copies. Some people do better with the round robin setup. Try em out and see how it goes for you.

Also try setting the game to full screen mode (in the in-game options), that helps some people. And try disabling vertical sync.

Re: Too choppy trying to play 4, any tips?

I actually came to this forum after getting isboxer up and running today. Act 1 I didnt seem to lag to horribly, but then once i entered act 2 I was lagging beyond playable.

I was hoping to find more threads similar to this, to find every last tip and trick I possibly can to better my performance.

I am running an EVGA 680i NF68 motherboard with a q6600 quad core cpu, 4GB memory(2x2GB dual channel), and a single evga 480 gtx graphics card. I really just want to do all that I can to make the game run as well as I possibly can. An I7 system upgrade is planned, but the build I have planned out is going to cost around $1500, and its going to have to wait for a few months, so anything I can do to get by with what I have I would like to do.

I actually did find some information for making Diablo 3 run better in general, on the battle.net diablo 3 general forums, it all seemed to help to a degree, instead of 10fps i get about 30 on my main window:

Open d3prefs.txt(also the ones created by isboxer) (in my documents\Diablo III)
Setting HardwareClass "1"
Setting sound channels to 16

Then

Nvidia control panel, 3d settings, manage 3d settings
+maximum pre-rendered frames = 1
+Triple Buffering off
+Vertical Sync off
+Threaded optimisation off

SEPERATE GAME FOLDERS PER INSTANCE (I read this helps but have not tried this one)

Another thing I have read is that having a SSD hard drive can speed up lag you get during resource loading, like when your walking along and encoutering new monsters for that level, although it wont improve your average framerate much, just when you get a hickup from new things loading. I actually ordered a SSD plextor M3 128GB today in an attempt to help things, cant wait till it arrives.

The game is playable for me after turning off all settings on the additional instances of the game and setting a cap of 20 fps across the board. Sometimes it runs a little sluggish but only briefly.

Same here. I need a new video card.

Re: Too choppy trying to play 4, any tips?

I am running a 480 GTX and even with lowest possible settings on all 4 I can still get GPU usage up to 100% at times.

capping the fps through isboxer was creating input lag on my followers, so I just put 60/60 round robin for isboxer, and then on all my followers I capped the fps to 15/15 in the diablo 3 settings, and left my main window fps caps unchecked in the settings. this gets my main toon around 30 fps and the others keep synced with him reasonably.

I am running 2 monitors. main toon full screen, other 3 followers tiled on second screen, maintain aspect ratio.

Both of my displays are hooked to the single 480 gtx, I was thinking of getting a second 480 gtx and running them in sli, but I think I will just wait till I build my i7 machine and purchase a 680 gtx ($500+$$ ouch!)

I also manage to use up most of my cpu usage on my q6600 core 2 quad 2.4 ghz cpu if enough stuff is going on in the game. and my 4GB of memory is at about 90% usage with four games running.

I also got a small FPS bump by picking a window layout that used the maintain aspect ratio, and also by setting the ingame options on diablo 3 to "Windowed (fullscreen)"

You can lower the in game resolution of your slaves for a big performance boost, but I think they have to be the same aspect ratio.

Re: Too choppy trying to play 4, any tips?

One of my monitors was a widescreen monitor, I swapped it out and am now using two that are 1280x1024 and it cut down on both my GPU and CPU usage. My cpu is still my bottleneck. Im going to order an H100 to water cool my cpu then overclock it to 3.6 (q6600)

I have never had the need to overclock my system till now, and I am not the type to overclock something just to do, I wont overclock untill I need to. right now I bounce around 70-100% cpu usage with this cpu at stock clock settings (2.4GHz quad core).
