Am I doing this right or what?
I also bought Logitech's G110 keyboard (love) and G500 programable mouse (starting to hate). I havent taken too much time learning how to use the programable features on these devices yet but I think I get the jist and have mapped a few functions to both devices
I must confess that I have been doing much more playing in the game and a lot less research on how to map keys and make my own config files - its just too much fun to play with what I have at the moment. However I am approaching Lvl 20 on my team and Im starting to think about my play style boxing Great Barrow instances, the skirms and effective rotations. And just being as fast - efficient - potent - and in control as I possibly can be.
Right now I'm slow - lucky - potent -and basicaly on the verge of being out of control, just pressing buttons and giddy when something cool happens.
I started out with a main guard, 2 hunters a mini and a cappy (as mo_rons guide demonstrates) but I dropped the captain around level 12 or so.
Heres how a typical event goes down:
If pull is fixed and sevral mobs are just standing around picking their noses:
I stop about 20 ms from the mob -
I hit key T - which makes my team target my guard
I hit tab - which makes my guard target the first mob
I click broadcast on -
I hit Cntrl+1 which toggles class stances
I line my team up by using one of the line formations that I mapped to my keyboard or by using the movement keys to face the mob -
hit key 1 - which triggers my hunters to release quickshot,Guard to do Ward, Mini do nothing.
hit key 2 - hunters release Barbed Arrow, Guard does Shield-blow, mini throws damage buff (cant recall the name)
hit key 3 - hunters swift bow, Guard vexing blow, mini heals target assist (guard)
hit key 4 - hunters: Penetrating Shot, Guard: cutting attack, mini heals
Using the movement keys to make minor position adjustments as needed on my team - with mo_rons file i can move just my team with the num keys or move everybody with W,A,S,D
Rinse repeat if needed.
If things go haywired - broadcast off - and break out with my guard to get things back under control - if i need to I will also switch to the mini and heal who is in need.
Broadcast off - loot (some times if everything is lined up right - I will loot simutaneously with broadcast on).
Wandering monsters I just run up to with team on follow smack'em around with my guard - hit broadcast on - sart at key 1... - rarely need to do more than this - broadcast off - loot - resume.
With this strategy I have been able to plow through all content in archet, chetwoods, the marsh, the surrounding area of the Greenway, through old forest and have just started to plunder the southren barrow downs. Even in areas I used to be extra careful in when solo'ing, like the second tier of Andrath vale, the marsh spider queen or the elite spider in the old forest, we chewed through - heck we even slaughtered the elite warg in chetwoods at level 7 and even though I eventually lost my undying title (again) this time it wasnt at the claws of that damn mutt.
Most of the time things are pretty smooth and if i take my time and plot and stay on it - I feel in control - but.....
Every once in a while things go astray - like an add or regen or me being stupid and i totally lose it and even though i pull through - it isnt pretty to witness. live and learn.
and then sometimes things go complettly wonky and my toons start spinning around in circles or runs off in some random direction or wont respond to my keystrokes - in these cases i try to mitigate the damage to my team - and first concentrate on stopping my team and then killing the mobs - and then getting them back in formation and hope nobody is watching.
So my question is... is this about what the rest of you are experiencing/doing? Am i missing something fundemental here? Where can I refine this process and what tips have you got for me?
I know that up to now content has been pretty tame and its about to get harder.
I would really love a beyond the basics config file with instructions on how you set up your keyboard - your UI - your keymaps. the works - lol
