Harddrive bottleneck?

Anyone have an idea on how many accounts you can run on 1 hard drive? Is there a known MB/SEC bottleneck? How much data does EVE typically transfer?

I have an intel SSD drive and at about 7 I start to notice some slowness, but before I put another one in I wanted to see what others were doing.

If it matters I run everything on the lowest settings.

Re: Harddrive bottleneck?

No general answers, but a bottleneck would be specific to your motherboard/SSD/OS combination, and would be extremely difficult to track down. I find it hard to imagine Eve takes up 1/7 of the SSDs bandwidth, but it may be possible. In theory, if you see a tree, Eve should only have to read the tree from the SSD once and then it is in the OS's disk cache for all the copies to share.

I'd suggest running the resource monitor if you are using windows 7 (open the task manager, performance tab, click the resource manager button.) You can run a single copy of Eve and look at the disk I/O, add a second copy record it again, and so on.

You should also check you aren't running out of memory and CPU bandwidth with 7 copies.

Finally, download and run GPU-Z to check if your graphics card is being overloaded. You might be running out of texture memory which would also cause slowdowns as the GPU is load with new textures as they are required.

Re: Harddrive bottleneck?

Exactly as tanker says -- How are you determining that the SSD is the bottleneck and that your CPU/GPU are not?

Re: Harddrive bottleneck?

Hey guys thanks for helping figure this out

i am going to attach some screen shots of my performance monitor, gpu-z and the task manager

this is with 1 client open and chrome running... perhaps you can point me in the right direction on what my bottleneck could currently be?

GPU-Z in your screenshot is completely blank...

When you're looking for a bottleneck, you need to recreate the situation where you're having issues and experiencing a problem. Are you having issues playing only one client?

Re: Harddrive bottleneck?

ok got all my clients up. The only issue I can see is one core of my CPU being nearly maxed, but the other ones are in the 40-50% range?

Re: Harddrive bottleneck?

I'm going to guess you're running an AMD 6-core processor? What is your CPU affinity set to?

It might also be the fact that you have 126 processes currently running on your machine when trying to multibox and that's... quite a lot (unless you have Chrome open which bloats the process count). I just opened up 40 game clients on my machine a few hours ago and I barely broke 100 processes. I think it might be time to start uninstalling or shutting down unnecessary programs to see if that changes anything.

Re: Harddrive bottleneck?

yes i did indeed have chrome running, as well as skype but really that was about it

isboxer sets the affinity and i believe im using the round robin balancing.

Re: Harddrive bottleneck?

The problem MAY be thus:

Game 1: CPU #1,#2
Game 2: CPU #3,#4
Game 3: CPU #5,#6
Game 4: CPU #1,#2
Game 5: CPU #3,#4
Game 6: CPU #5,#6
Game 7: CPU #1,#2

So you now have 3 games sharing one CPU pair and it is overloaded. Post a screenshot of your CPU configuration in ISBoxer please.

Re: Harddrive bottleneck?

im having trouble finding a place where this is easily shown in a condensed format

however after going to each client's slot in the set i see that 2 clients are sharing CPU 2

each client only runs on 1 CPU, it appears i can highlight multiple CPU's

im going to move one client to share cpu #1 as it appears to be under the least load.. should i have clients sharing more then 1 CPU at a time?

im also debating upgrading from this 6 core to the 8 core AMD fx-8150, its only $150

thoughts?
