Problem with Eve Overview - 5 acc isboxer

o/
Here are the details of my problem:
I'm using a 5man isboxer setup, all of tthem with the same window positioning, same overview settings, same ships, same modules etc. However, sometimes i have problems with targeting the SAME rat/other ship from overview. I'll give you more details in order to understand the situation and hopefully to find a fix.
If i'm ratting or doing a complex and i have the following ships on overview: 3x Ship A ( ships A1,A2,A3 ), 4x Ship B (ships B1, B2, B3, B4), 3x Ship C ( ships C1, C2, C3 )etc, from time to time, depending on the rats positioning while trying to target ships A1, A2 and A3 and shoot only ship A2(just an example), I end up shooting ship A1 with 2-3 clients and ship A2 with other clients. The thing is, no matter what the "sort by..." i chose, from time to time, i get this problem.
- if i sort overview by distance, obviously the overviews will be different since my ships aren't at 0 from each other, so it won't work.
- If i sort by name or by type, it works most of the time, but it fails from time to time, like i described. If, for example, three rats have the SAME name, on client one they may appear as A1,A2,A3 ( all with the name of Angel Throne ) and on the second client they may appear as A2, A1, A3 ( the same Angel Throne ships ). They may appear in any order from 1 to 3 since they have the same name. It's obvious that, if i target the first rat only, some clients will end up shooting rat A1 and some will shoot rat A2 or A3. How do i make them shoot the same rat, with all 5 clients, everytime ? How have you solved this overview problem while ratting , doing missions or incurions ?

Thanks in advance for help :)

Re: Problem with Eve Overview - 5 acc isboxer

Ok there are a few different ways that you need to use the overview depends on what action you are carrying out at the time.. i have found that i have to change my settings (mainly how it sorts the overview and what is on it) whenever i change what im foing.. for example.. travelling between systems or locating targets on the overview.
To answer your question about targetting.. the thing that i have noticed is that the overview sorts by name, type, distance etc (depending on what order they are arranged) but if they are sorted by name (like the NPCs for example) the overview will then sort them in whatever randon order afterwards because theyre all the same.
There is a way around this though.
what you need to do is set up your characters so that they are all in a fleet. and have the broadcast window set the same on each one. then open the settings for whatever character you control them all from and go to shortcuts and find the broadcast target setting.. then set that to something that the other clients dont have (i use numberpad 0)

Once you have done that what you should be able to do then is to pick each npc from the overview from your main client.. click on it on the overview and hit that shortcut button so its broadcasted as a target.. then from the broadcast window.. hold control and click that broadcast while broadcasting is active.. and all the characters should lock that same target. thats how i do it and it works a treat.
Also. for reference.. i have my overview coloms set in the following order...

Name (sort primary arrow down)
Type
Icon
Distance

Using this method i am able to use my 8 tornadoes to alpha pretty much anything with less than 75k ehp instantly.. and have boxed a numbar of machariels, archons, drakes, tengus etc in pvp, incursions, ratting, missions and even mining with great accuracy.

Also i use different overview filter profiles depending on what im doing (switching between them while broadcasting seems to work every time. i have the ui set to 110pc size which minimises risk of misclicks)

Traveling - Gates-stations and the sun
PVP - All ships not in fleet, corp, alliance
PVP - Titan (friendly and hostile for when youre about to bridge on something)
PVPTackle - tackling ships like dics hics and inties etc
PVPLogi - RR cruisers
PVE - ALL NPC and accel gates
Mining - All rocks
Stations - Stations

you get the idea.. but i do find switching between them as i am going makes the job (and risk of misclicks) alot less likely.

Hope this helps.

Re: Problem with Eve Overview - 5 acc isboxer

Thanks for the reply. I kept sorting them by name, but i've made three changes in order to fix this problem.
1. I have noticed that two of my characters are targeting slower, with 0.5, maybe 1second delay. This caused 3 clients to shoot first and the other 2 later. The fix was to wait one or two seconds before locking all targets then shoot. This way, all 5 chars shot at the same time.
2. I have noticed some characters ran out of ammo faster than others because of the delay explain at point one. This caused a complete mess since i couldn't syncronize all the chars at all and i had to manually check the clients that were not shooting. The fix was to syncronize all clients to shoot at the same time, which was a piece of cake after noticing the problem at point one. Also, reloading more frequent, for example after each wave while PVE-ing ( or before locking ships ) is another way to make sure you're full ammo.
3.I have noticed there is a small delay of about 1-2 seconds after killing a target before it "fades out" from overview. It will become transparent, but won't disappear right away. If you target another ship from overview before the ship you killed fades out, the other chars may select another ship, with one row up or down on the overview, causing your clients to shoot two different ships.

Thanks again for your answer. I was thinking to use the broadcast, but i had no idea it had a shortcut. It was too much pain in the ass to right click on overview, select "broadcast target" and then select it from broadcast history. With the shortcut, it's much easier :)
