Pure Lag with ISBoxer and 3 accts

I'm sure I'm missing something here, but normall I run EVE using this method http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Multiple_clients for 3 accounts, as you can see it creates a junction from the default eve folder into multiple ones (I have the default eve folder and 2 junctions, it doesn't cost me anymore HDD space at all.

I run all 3 clients in windowed mode and at high graphic settings and never receive any lag.

I installed ISBoxer, and although window placement is confusing at first I somewhat got it down but the lag is beyond horrible for me, just scrolling ships in a station is painful to watch.

Any ideas what's causing this issue? Would be nice if I could link to the shortcuts to launch each client as I do from my desktop (is this possible?). ie my desltop shortcuts are as follows:

Code:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\eve.exe"
"C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE2\eve.exe"
"C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE3\eve.exe"

The reason I like this (and I believe it keeps performance) if I were to go into my EVE settings/cache folders, there are different settings and cache files for each of my launched clients!

My system config is as follows:

First I've heard anyone make such a complaint with EVE.

If you're using X-Fire software, you can disable its in-game features and this will restore performance to normal levels and you probably don't need additional advice.

Configuration-wise, you can potentially adjust your CPU cores per Slot in ISBoxer to improve things. Select your Character Set in the top pane, then in the bottom left pane select each Slot number (i.e. 1, 2, 3). In the bottom right pane you will be able to set FPS limiter settings (I don't know if EVE has FPS limiting built in but if it does and you're using that, UNCHECK the boxes in ISBoxer... or disable it in EVE) and select CPU cores. i7-specific CPU core selection discussion is here: http://isboxer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=1090. If you are currently setting EVE clients to only use a fake core of your i7, that would be a performance problem.

And then I have no information about what version of Windows you're on, how many video cards and monitors, etc. Those are also important details if the above doesn't help.

Finally... you don't need to make junctions or use multiple folders. ISBoxer is already setting up separate settings files for you just by using the Quick Setup Wizard, and separating the cache isn't incredibly important. This isn't likely to be contributing to your performance issue (unless the issue is that it's having to generate the cache several times instead of already having it, due to the separation... but that would feel more like network lag than graphical lag, which I assume is what you are getting), it's just extra work that you didn't need to go through. :)

Re: Pure Lag with ISBoxer and 3 accts

Very informative answer and setting up the individual cores for the CPU did in fact work. So initial issue resolved, very informative answer and very fast response.

There are only a few things that I would like to see (it could be already possible, I'm still exploring after all) and that's with the windowing methods.

Without ISBoxer, I really like how EVE works in window mode more specifically though just with 3 accounts, they all launch windowed I drag character 1 to the top of monitor one and character 2 and 3 to the top of monitor two using the task bar to switch between 2 and 3.

Now what would be nice in ISBoxer would be if you could have full screen but have the it setup like windowed mode does (in relation to the bottom of the screen) and adjust the screen to fit with the task bar below the game view so it doesn't get hidden.

Oddly when I click monitor 2 the task bar appears for some reason, maybe this is just something to get used to.

The way I see I can fix this is to launch 1 account alone and launch the other 2 in ISBoxer, that way it would be workable.

Just throwing opinions out there, but this is a really neat application.

I like it this way as I can easily browse without having to bring the task bar to the foreground.

Re: Pure Lag with ISBoxer and 3 accts

You can technically make it do that in your Window Layout, by adjusting the main Region to be about 40 pixels smaller (40px is the size of the Windows 7 taskbar by default, I believe). I will have to make the layout generator include layouts that avoid the taskbar area, for the drop-down box in the wizard. Without generating it most people will end up with mismatching aspect ratios on their windows :P

Here's how you can make the Window Layout Wizard or Quick Setup Wizard leave space for your taskbar, right now:
1. Get to the wizard screen with the generated Window Layout styles to choose from
2. In the properties box to the right, there is an option that says "Use Monitors" under multiple monitors at the bottom. Select it.
3. With the Use Monitors option selected, you should now see a "..." button to the right of where it says "(Collection)" on the same line. Click the ... button to bring up the monitors editor for the wizard
4. The monitors editor should now be up. On the left is a list of your monitors, you can switch the order around if you happen to want to change which monitor the generator is using as the main screen or whatnot (select the one and click the Up arrow). On the right side is the properties for a selected monitor. The "RectBounds" field is what will be used by the generator for that particular monitor, and will start out as the full resolution of the monitor. The "RectWorkingArea" field is the "Maximized" size/position for this monitor, i.e. everything excluding the taskbar. Set the RectBounds field to be the same as the RectWorkingArea field, and click OK.
5. The monitors editor should now be closed, and the preview will be updated with a smaller looking monitor, and the drop-down box of styles will now have a set of styles that does NOT overlay the taskbar.

... I'll be cutting that down to a single on/off option during the wizard, but that will set you straight until then if you need!

Okay, done already ;)

ISBoxer 38.2.403.1 now includes an "Avoid taskbar" option in the wizard. :) Manual upgrade info at http://isboxer.com/wiki/ISBoxer_Releases
