Little help please?

HI there, new to the ISboxer, been playing with the setup for the last few days, and it runs and operates superbly.

I am currently mining in EVE. I have an Orca providing boosts as my squad leader, and then my fleet at the moment consists of 8 Exhumers and a Hauler.

I want to run a third monitor, so that i can display all the cap levels and modules for each mining ship in that third windows.

Currently, I use my primary monitor as the focus monitor, so which ever character I am interacting with automatically swaps to that screen, and the other 9 characters are on the second screen in a grid format.

I have the exhumers set as one action group so i can repeat mining laser cycles to them etc, and then the hauler acts independent, and the Orca also acts independent. This in its self is not a problem, but i waste a lot of time without lasers running, as the 9 screens are so small i can't see when they have unlocked, and stopped cycling.

What I want to know, is if i can put the same part of these 9 individual screens onto a third screen, and interact with them on the 3rd screen? My understanding is I can start a DXnothing window in the third screen and then create 9 viewers, or the 9 sources on the second screen, but will this allow me to interact with those parts?

If you understand this, your obviously doing better than I am,

But feel free to question this if you need clarification,

Thanks in advance,

Yes. When setting up your Video FX Viewers, ensure "Repeater pass-thru" (for mouse) and "+ Keyboard" (for keyboard) are checked. Then while your mouse is over the Viewer any clicks or key presses will be sent to the source window.

Re: Little help please?

Yes, when you have a video feed you can set it up on the dxNothing display as having keyboard and mouse passthrough.

Here's a screenshot of my 10-box mining setup on two 1920x1200 monitors.
Left hand monitor has all 10 clients, full screen, stacked, and I use F1..F10 to bring whichever client I want to 'drive' to the top.
Right hand monitor has a dxNothing window displaying the most pertinent info from clients 1-9 (I've added the red lines and numbering to make it clearer, I hope).
Each of the 9 dxNothing 'client displays' has 3 video feeds from the corresponding client window (ore hold, 'warping to...' display and ship controls).
In the image above, I'm 'driving' client 3, my DPS ship on the left, whilst the other 8 all mine, and client 10 is my Orca, sat in the POS, so doesn't need anything displayed in the dxNothing window.

Image

The image has come out a bit small on this host but the ship controls are crystal clear on the right hand monitor, as they are a 1:1 video feed of the client window, so it's very easy to see module status of all the ships.

For each of those 27 video feeds on the dxNothing screen, you could enable mouse+keyboard pass-through so that you can click on the dxNothing window and interact with the client.
Personally, I don't use that feature as, being an ice miner, my ships are always in-synch and I just broadcast from 1 of them to start mining, but I can understand the complications with ore mining so it might well make things a lot easier for you.

Similarly, with my 5xDrake/Raven + 1xNoctis team, I have all 6 clients stacked, full screen, on the left and a dxNothing screen showing ship controls, drones, targets and the 'warping to' text.

Image

As the Noctis is always in the previous anomoly, I don't bother displaying it on the right hand screen, just hit F6 to bring it into focus on the left, start salvaging and swap back to the main ships.

Hope that helps.

Re: Little help please?

Yeah that's a great help, I'm glad someone understands what I'm trying to do.

If I interact with any of the fx feeds, ie reactivate say the mining lasers using one of the, will this bring the corresponding window to the main screen? That's something I don't want.

I only want to have the screen with the windows causing the main screen focus to change, any interacts with the fx viewers it hoping wont change the main focus.

Re: Little help please?

Correct, interacting with the video feed on the dxNothing display will not cause your main window to change.

As you mention using 8 miners and a hauler, I guess you're using Hulks for maximum ore output but have you considered using Mackinaws and swapping the hauler for another miner - the Mack now has an ore bay of 35,000m3 so I just warp to POS every 29m or so and drop off my ice, then head back out. I used to mine with Covetors and hauled cans with a Mammoth but, tbh, that was too stressful, having to retrieve cans all the time and leaving cans in the field when neuts came in.
Now, using Macks, once I've destroyed the rat wrecks, there is no evidence of where I've been mining for the neuts to pick up on scan.

The ore output per minute, with maxed out miners using T2 crystals and a maxed out Orca boost, looks like this:

Image

so with Hulks you are having to micro manage them into cans every 3m and, with 8 miners, you are hauling all the time once they get going - I know, I've been there!
With Macks you could replace the hauler with another miner and so would only lose 9.6% ore output but each Mack would take over 15m to fill and your life as a miner would be much less stressful.
Retrievers are more efficient but less tankable and fill up every 9m.
The added benefit of not leaving evidence of your mining in the field is a huge bonus for null sec mining.

I'm actually in the process of skilling up drones on my miners and intend to replace my DPS ship with a 9th miner once I have enough drones to deal with my null sec rats.

Re: Little help please?

Yeah, the maths makes sense, but there is a reason for my madness :P

I have another 3 monitors on the way, which I have picked up from my company as they are getting rid of them. Which i am going to put into the monitor bank., giving me a 2 deep, and 3 wide screen bank.

The top row of monitors will feature one main display, a 9 window display, and a dxnothing screen for those screens. This will be Fleet Commander in an Orca/Rorqual, and a squad with 8 miners/1 hauler.

The second row will replicate this, however with a wing commander in a command type ship (nighthawk/vulture type) and a squad featuring 9 miners.

The first row will operate in one belt in nullsec, and the second team will operate in a second belt in nullsec.

With the Orca/Rorq remaining in a POS, and the Hauler going round collecting from a number of anchored containers in both of those belts.

I plan to have them split into a number of action groups, 1st row miners, 2nd row miners, with the hauler, the orca/rorq and command ship operating independently. I may modify the setup at a later date to include a command ship for each belt, to act as the drone bunny, depends what works with the screen combo.

Again, just shout if this doesnt make sense.
