That may be enough to convince me to change all my passwords to be the same and switch to using character sets the way they are intended to be used. Which would make this whole issue go away. I'll probably do that.

No, that isn't the function I am looking for :). I have read them... lots of good information there.

Yes. We have a disconnect.

I said it was all working.

I don't need help with any of the character sets. Your summary just told me what I already told you about the way these character sets work.

As I said, the MAINS, ALTS1, ALTS2, ALTS3 sets are never launched. They simply define all the characters as potentially existing on all the computers.

As I said, the DAVIDx, VAIOx, and REENIELAPx character sets are only there to set up the communication linkages among the machines.

At home, I launch DAVIDx on the main computer to set up the communication links to any of the laptops that happen to be at home with me. I cancel the individual game launches that this triggers.

At my wife's nursing home, I launch VAIOx to set up a communications link to REENIELAP, again cancelling the game launches.

Once this is done, the machines are talking to each other, and I can launch any characters on any computer and they are all able to send and receive keys to/from any other characters that happen to be loaded.

I can freely load any characters on any machine and set up any sort of grouping arrangement I want, and change them around at will, and it continues to work. If I decide to add another of my characters to an existing configuration I don't have to define anything new to ISBoxer... I just launch the character and it automatically fits in and can send and receive keys to/from all the others.

I only asked if there were a way to get the computers to talk to each other, as they do after being included as "also launch" entries, WITHOUT trying to launch any individual characters initially.

As I said, not critical.

And I will probably stop trying to do it this way.

But I am still hoping to get you to understand what "this way" actually is, and why I found the flexibility of being able to mix and match characters dynamically without having to change anything at the ISBoxer level attractive.

Yes, there is a way to manually do this. There isn't anything built in for you to do it easily other than launching.

On the main PC -- the one that connects to the others and does not need incoming connections enabled -- right click IS and select Console. In the Console window that comes up, enter this command:

remoteuplink -connect <NAME OR IP>


Example:
Code:
remoteuplink -connect REENIELAP

If it cannot resolve the name, use the IP address instead

Thank you Lax. That is exactly what I was asking.

As I said in the last post, I will probably switch over to using character sets the way they are intended to be used, so will not need to do this. But it is nice to confirm that the function I wanted does exist. I thought it had to be there somewhere.
