eqgame client fails to stay running

Since the last Everquest patch one of my computers will no longer launch EQ instances via isboxer

I have performed the Everquest diagnostics (game launches fine without isboxer)

This is the location of the isboxer diagnostic pastbin : http://privatepaste.com/bc45598f8a

This is the location of my isboxer configuration : http://www.privatepaste.com/2cd696e95a

I have tried changing the window border handling to confirm that it was not something silly here, but I still can not get it to launch correctly

The eqgame.exe instances start but close after around 1 second with no crash messages

Re: eqgame client fails to stay running

Well after a lot of debugging and trial and error, I have tracked it down to this product causing the issue

Code:
84. C:\Program Files\UltraMon\RTSUltraMonHookX32.dll
86. C:\Program Files\UltraMon\UltraMonResButtons.dll

http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/

Removal of this application has returned everything back to normal - still baffled at why this only started occurring after the RoF update to Everquest, but I'm just glad to have this issue sorted.

Re: eqgame client fails to stay running

I suspect it has to do with "manage more applications with the Smart Taskbar."

There are multiple complaints about Taskbar issues associated with the most recent patch.

Re: eqgame client fails to stay running

Greetings!

The issue with ultramon and eq (and most likely other games, too) can be easily fixed by setting up custom settings for eqgame.exe.

To do that just open the UltraMon conext-menu and choose "Options ...". there choose "Compatibility", click <Configure Settings>, locate eqgame.exe and just set "disable window buttons".
Everything else can be left unchecked (at least I didn't find any issues with the other options so far - despite testing quite a different number of setups in ISBoxer).

(by the way - the same way you can talk acrobat reader into showing the "move-window" buttons *smile* ... just use the "use alternative method to move maximized window")

Hope that helps!

Thanks Lax for helping me fix that issue. Without his ideas I would never have found where the problem comes from.
