What I thought was amazing was all the selective memory. Boxing never happened in classic EQ!!! Really? So why did I need 4 computers, and then met my wife who wanted a couple of extras for herself? Now it's 16 years later, and we are doing the same thing just a whole lot more efficiently and cheaply. And there are literally thousands more doing the same thing.
But, to hear it on the boards, everything was pure and beautiful merriment of social well being and harmony across all the lands. I guess I just played a different EQ, since I knew many people who boxed.
The other astonishing thing is that the people who are so aggressive now about "3rd party programs" that RUIN the fine world of EQ (other than that we keep the lights on on a lot of servers when they all left for Shiny New Toy #374628) is that they call ISboxer automation. That is the software they hate more than anything, it seems, because "we can see you sit all your characters at the same time!!!!! And then stand and cast, all at the same time!!". Oh, the humanity.
I thought I would point out that if it's automated using MQ2, it's so easy to make each toon work on it's own and that makes it much, much harder to see it in game. It looks more and more like 6 real players if you take the time to do that. Instead, it's the people sitting at the keyboard and broadcasting instead of alt-tabbing between windows that the zealots find offensive. It becomes a pure mob mentality, over all the wrong things, and so clearly based on their own lack of knowledge, and disinterest in seeking out the truth.
So, yeah ... I am way on board with the zealot analogies above. :p
