Re: Ragefire anti ISBoxer crowd

I never said there was merit in their arguments. But some folks seem to be confusing ISBoxer with MQ2, with the talk of scripts and special follow code that doesn't use in-game commands.
The argument that key replication is automation is boggling too. Hopefully DBG doesn't take any of that seriously. Holly said something like "EQ is boxing" and mentioned having boxed EQ before.

I'm probably just overreacting, but I'd hate to see ISBoxer banned from EQ.

If you are so content and fulfilled with your secular lifestyle, why do you feel the need to inject religion into an unrelated discussion and attack those of faith?

I never said I lead a secular life.

Because it was only going further off topic, and regardless of my beliefs, opinions, intentions and my attempt to explain, it was more than likely to continue further off topic. If you'd like to send me your opinion about my simile, please feel free to PM it so we do not further impact upon this thread.

Re: Ragefire anti ISBoxer crowd

I get it, Bob. It was a very appropriate metaphor.

I do understand their point of view, and this is why I feel neither righteous nor immoral, nor feel any connection to non-boxers on a level of play-style or skill, and simply don't respond to them or read their comments.

For their argument against us, we are both runners in a race and we have actuator-assisted legs. It's our legs, and our brain is telling the actuators what to do, but from an outside perspective the advantages are in plain sight.

For our argument against them, we either have to run twice as far as they do, or better still, we aren't even in a race at all, so what's the big deal.

I'm only responding to this because I enjoyed reading your metaphor.

That was really informative, Firescue, it's reassuring to see at least not a direct hate from the EQ dev team. As far as players, they just weren't AWARE how easy it was to multibox before, and now that they've been gaming a while, feel it's ruining the experience (that's been there the whole time - boxing)

Heh, there's a few dev's that by their own admission use ISBoxer.

Re: Ragefire anti ISBoxer crowd

What I thought was amazing was all the selective memory. Boxing never happened in classic EQ!!! Really? So why did I need 4 computers, and then met my wife who wanted a couple of extras for herself? Now it's 16 years later, and we are doing the same thing just a whole lot more efficiently and cheaply. And there are literally thousands more doing the same thing.

But, to hear it on the boards, everything was pure and beautiful merriment of social well being and harmony across all the lands. I guess I just played a different EQ, since I knew many people who boxed.

The other astonishing thing is that the people who are so aggressive now about "3rd party programs" that RUIN the fine world of EQ (other than that we keep the lights on on a lot of servers when they all left for Shiny New Toy #374628) is that they call ISboxer automation. That is the software they hate more than anything, it seems, because "we can see you sit all your characters at the same time!!!!! And then stand and cast, all at the same time!!". Oh, the humanity.

I thought I would point out that if it's automated using MQ2, it's so easy to make each toon work on it's own and that makes it much, much harder to see it in game. It looks more and more like 6 real players if you take the time to do that. Instead, it's the people sitting at the keyboard and broadcasting instead of alt-tabbing between windows that the zealots find offensive. It becomes a pure mob mentality, over all the wrong things, and so clearly based on their own lack of knowledge, and disinterest in seeking out the truth.

So, yeah ... I am way on board with the zealot analogies above. :p

I remember talking to them when we played on Test Server in the old days (prior to the copy everything as much as you want rules). They seemed to really enjoy it and I doubt that has changed much.
