Re: One of the slot freeze after new patch

Dear everyone who "has the same issue", you also "have the same response" from me in this thread. I have not received "Diagnostics for game freezes" for a frozen Diablo III.exe from any of you.

Edit: I do have one diagnostics dump from someone now, but no good information from it. More data from additional people may help. I am working on trying to duplicate the issue, if I can do that I may be able to correct it

Re: One of the slot freeze after new patch

As I work on reproducing this issue, it might help to have some additional information so I can get an idea of what I should do to make it happen. Right now it's only been reported by people with NVIDIA GPUs, so definitely chime in if you've got this issue with an ATI card. Also, given that it's only been NVIDIA so far, it might help to try older or beta drivers.

Other information that might help me reproduce the issue:
1. What are you doing at the time this happens?
2. Where are you in the game?
3. What classes are you playing?
4. What abilities are you using?

And of course, if anyone knows how to make it happen reliably instead of "random" or after x amount of time, that would help too

Re: One of the slot freeze after new patch

I am farming Act 2 when it happens to me. My main box freezes. I can still move the char, but the graphics are stuck, so that i am not seeing what i am doing.
When farming with 2 boxes it never happens.
With 4 i get a freeze after about 20 min. I restart that box, but then it freezes after shorter intervals. It starts freezing every min after some time. Only a Pc restart helps. All graphic settings on minimum does not help.
It doesn't freeze when I am standing still, only freezes when there is more going on.
I am using a barb with lots of speed abilities to move around faster.
Nvidia graphics card, newest drivers.

I'll send you my file, but give me a little time... I also work instead of only play ;)
BTW - how to find which PID is on which SLOT? When I have freeze should I make dump from all 4 processes?

All other information you can find on my video.
It's only one case... other was the same.. after patch I farming chest at Act I ;) It's also happen when I was in Town. I use my mouse for "next/prev windows" to switch between slots - very rare use keyboard for that.
I was play with three accounts, but now play with four.
Classes: 3x wd and wizard

Before I made this post, I try two olders drivers, newest, and new beta - all have this same problem - I've got nVidia card too.

What I noticed (I'll try confirm it today) it can be something wrong, when GPU usage is very high. (issue occurred).

I don't have a good answer to identify it, you might not be able to do that reliably without closing the good ones and leaving the bad one up.

So far I have a dump from 2 different people, still all on NVIDIA. No useful information in the dumps yet. As everyone says, the game is still technically running and operating, it's just not rendering. If anyone happens to have the DirectX SDK installed in order to turn on DirectX 9 debugging (yes 9 not 10 or 11, yes even if you're on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1), it's possible that DirectX will provide some useful error information. (This requires both installing the SDK, and having a debugger or DebugView in order to see the error messages)

I have some other related information from a couple guys in the ISBoxer Chat Room that might help someone:
1. One of them has apparently worked around the issue by adjusting the in-game graphics settings to include low settings instead of high settings, including the Low FX check box, and to make sure all of the windows are set to "Windowed (Fullscreen)" (some were set to Fullscreen). This guy is playing Witch Doctors.
2. The other has reported that he gets this issue regardless of his graphics settings (all on low/medium), but only on his Barbarians. He had no issue on Demon Hunters or Wizards.

So there's a couple other things to try or information to share -- graphics settings, different classes. How many of you who are crashing are playing Barbarians? Are you WW barbs?

(Also of interest, I am playing my Witch Doctors to try to reproduce the issue; I will switch to Barbarians since that seems to be the majority so far)

Re: One of the slot freeze after new patch

Here is my dump.

This time I play 1x wizard, 3x wd
Wd stay in town, and nothing to do, but I play only on wizard and test something.
Act I, second quest - play about 10-15 min... and freezing.

Afeter "unfreeze" I do screenshot of my settings and skills.
When freezing I use blizzard, bubble and spectral blades (in this order). I use this skills on my wizard http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/wizard#WlgjSf!WYg!bcbaZZ
I do it many times on the map and after while... freezing.

Yesterday for tests purpose I change my resolutions from 1920x1200 at 1600x1024 - my gpu usage with this settings is about 80-90% - works like a charm without freeze until today I change resolution back at 1920x1200 and make same test for you.
I didn't wait to long - as I wrote I play about 15 min, and stuck.

All graphic settings in-game I turn off or set as low. I setup game as full screen mode - when I try Windowed (fullscreen) I have very poor performance.
During this tests my gpu usage was 100% almost whole time - I do screenshot: http://goo.gl/hIE3gE

As you see gpu usage was almost 100% whole the time, and about 2-3 sec before freeze gpu slow down at about 80% and stay at this level. Durring this time I can't do nothing.

I've hope everything is understandable for you, en is not my native language ;)

Edit:
I don't see dmp file as an attachement - it was included?
If no I'll share it for you: http://goo.gl/FjCfgZ

I have the same problem. And I have a "quickfix".
If you press ctrl-alt-del and then just cancel that screen you get back control of your characters that froze.

I have no idea why that works, but it does.

Re: One of the slot freeze after new patch

Hi

Changing the resolutions from 1920x1080 to 1600x1024 seemed to fix the problem for me? Ok i need to do more testing yet (just 1 hour without freeze so far) but it's more than ever before.

Thanks to @KriS

The ctrl-alt-del work to unfreeze the screen. I press it and then cancel it. All my screen is back to normal. I was able to play for an hour or more. :)

I have play with 4 chars Barb, DH, and WD and all will freeze some how even with setting to low and others being turn off.
