Thoughts on DH Strafe builds

Ive been running Isboxer for a month or so now, and have been playing around with strafe builds. Just wanted to share some of my experiences as there arent many guides out there.

I started with legacy nats for all, but in the end, wasnt necessary for farming the lower MP's 1-3. I then switched to new nats, balancing DPS/MF
My main character is 400dps Unbuffed, with the 3 support characters at around 250dps. The 3 support characters run MF gear. 1 of the characters has maxed out pickup radius for globes.
The idea is pretty much the same for all builds:
Strafe
Chakram-Shruiken cloud
Shadow-Gloom
Companion-Bat
Vault-ToC
This leaves me with an open slot...havent decided which is best for that yet.

Passives:
Vengeance
Archery
Then depending on the build - Steady Aim, Ballistics, or Tactical

Some thoughts on the following Strafes:

Drifting Shadow - Keeping up movement speed was really nice, but only worked on MP0-1. I thought it would not be enough for mobs, but with 4 DH's it was more than enough. This might be the most efficient build.

Stinging Steel/Demolition - I ran my main with Stinging and the others on Demolition. MP2 was possible.

Demolition - This is by far the biggest damage dealer. MP4 is possible with elites taking less than 10 seconds. However, my characters HP is fairly low, so they do die from time to time.

Rocket Storm - My favorite because of the ability to keep my distance from Elites, MP1 is easy. MP2, doable.

Any feedback you have, or other builds to think of is much appreciated.

I'm trying to get a video going of these, and will post when I do.

I have try the strafe build at MP0. I die often due to I can't control the 4 chars together whenever I am strafing. Somehow the 1 or 2 mouse pointers started to point at different direction.

Now I am testing with cluster grenade and bola.

Re: Thoughts on DH Strafe builds

Nice, good to find some other players running DH in a strafe build! This is kind of an expensive class to multibox, but I was so far along with my DH already that I didn't want to start over :) (currently paragon 91 with org char).

I use a very similar build to leicalized, favoring Chakram-Shruiken cloud with Demolition. Bloodyivo, it actually isn't terrible for damage, not bad at all really. If you figure your squad for 500k damage and the cloud does 34% damage per second, that is 170k to anything that gets close (which monsters often will in mp3+) and that much without a critical hits. With crit chance of 40-50 or higher, the damage is that much higher. This allows you to run through monsters without stopping, effectively getting 2 attacks at once (with stafe going), all time. Combine this with a little fire from your tumble and you just run through everything. Admittedly though, I'm stuck at mp3 for the moment. I think I need higher resists to start doing mp4 effectively. My main character has 39k life, while helpers have 47/48k and 200-300 resists and any of them can die once an elite pack starts fearing my characters off the screen. That's freakin' annoying

Currently my DH crew has 225k dps, 120k, 115k, 105k respectively.

I really like the beastly bombs and marked for death combo. Props! ;)

Adding traps and running without the Bat eats up my hatred WAY to fast! Then again, I don't run nat set, but even if I did, I feel like my hatred simply vanishes too quickly when I tried your build. Balancing resources must have taken a little practice. I think i'm used running strafe nonstop, but if I start dropping traps i would have to rethink my play style a bit and perhaps evade more. Please fill us in a little Bloodyivo... I might have to friend you so we can chat about this live.

I'll be playing around with different builds and will post anything interesting I might find, but for now, many of my helpers are low paragon (below 20), so before I bother trying to do mp4 or mp5 the MF gap could simply be filled by leveling them up faster at lower mp.

Thoughts on gearing helpers for higher mp would be appreciated as well. For now, i get my primary source of resistance from the nat boots, mempo, vile ward and intelligence which puts the help between 250-300ish. Each has about 47k life.

Bloodyivo wrote:FInaly a player that plays 4DH and put some brain in it :) i thinked i am alone in the desert :D . At this moment i maniged to farm MP5 with easy and temo :D all i needed is my build (you can see it in armory) and 634DPS combined 4500 armor and 300 res all per char. In some Elites combos some char may die but its not big pain. Ok to your questions:
1) About the chakrams - in MP5 34% dmg is just to low to bother may be in MP2,3 is vaiable not in MP4+ And simply there is nothing else to remove to put it... may be the Rain of vengence but i love it so much :D
2) About the gearing it is not that expencive at least to have the gear for MP3 or 4 you need like 50-100mil per char in gear to be sucesful.
3) To have 4x Nat and Ring of jordan is absolutly a MUST because the discpiline it fuels the hatered via Preparation:punishment Else u run out of Hatered .
Feel free to add me as friend if u have some questions or new ideas :)

I checked out your character and it looks like a nice setup. It might be tough for me to give up the mempo on all of the characters because this is inexpensive damage and a nice life boost with life%. I would have to change out quite a bit to gear to get such high armor too. 4600 is quite high for DH. I wonder if I go craft some gear (bracers, gloves) to boost resistances into the 400-500 range if I would get the same result in terms of resilience. Hmm.. right now I can blow through mp3 with ease, but mp5 is impressive. Are the drops that much more common/better? It all comes down to the trade-off between efficiency and MF I suppose. So maybe that is a dumb question. Speaking of efficiency, I used the strafe rune that allows normal movement speed yesterday on mp1 and it was downright comical how fast everything died and how quickly I moved through levels. TA as a passive would have been pointless, as there was simply no need to evade.

I think I will experiment with your build with one character a bit more before I blow my gold on changing out gear to the helpers :D I already use the SOJ, but with bonus to strafe crit chance to better fuel disc with crits instead of spike trap damage and my nat embrace has hatred regen on it instead of the bonus disc. That is one difference right away from last time I tried it and was running out of hatred. Also, you are running perfectionism instead of archery as I was, which is good call for mp4+ and the disc cost reduction.

Oh, I did have one thing for you to consider... What about dark rain instead of beastly bombs? The only issue i have with beastly bombs is that elites can easily move out the AOE or disperse if they are ranged; however, melee attackers definitely get destroyed quickly. On paper beastly bombs is more damage, but often many of the bombs miss, so it may be somewhat misleading. The logic with dark rain (I think that's the name) is that it tracks moving targets (so it always hits) and adds to your overall firepower for 12 seconds against regular mobs too. This only leaves 18 seconds of downtime, so you can use it more often to boost efficiency. Now, if you are only elite hunting, that might be pointless and the avg firepower of beastly bombs might superior. The opposite argument might also be made the AOE is better, even if you are rolling the dice that you can always kite elites into it, primarily that with Dark Rain, white mobs might wander into the fight against elites and draw the auto-tracking fire of the dark rain away from the elites. I need to do some more testing comparing the two. I noticed you are using tactical advantage as well, which also really helps if you are strictly hunting elites. Are you doing this or wiping out all mobs as your go? Thanks again for the info. I'm taking a break from D3 for a few days, but I'll add you when i get back on so we can chat. I would really like to see your build in action on mp5 just to see how you are balancing attacks between traps, strafe and rain of vengeance. That would be a treat.

Oh, and what rune are you using for marked for death? if I was dropping traps like yourself the one that boosts hatred might be nice, but for the moment I'm using the one that adds 12% to damage around the target, which wipes out any supporting characters the elites might bring with them that much faster..
