D3 Network? Lag issue with lots of spells and mobs in screen
I think this might be a D3 Server issue, but maybe it's something else, or maybe there's a work around.
Aside from this (sort of minor) issue, everything is running beyond perfect.
I have a 6/12 core 3.2 GHZ Intel with 32 gigs memeory, 3x SSD drives at 6gbs and a GTX 680. Also Fios connection at like 80Mbps.
I have all 4x d3 settings to the lowest possible. My D3 processes never go above 12% - so max 50% CPU usage.
My FPS is set at 30 max foreground and background. Although I tried 10, 15, 20, 25 - didn't seem to make a difference.
Everything runs perfectly (Crazy good) except when I get a lot (maybe 15+) of mobs on the screen and I do a bunch of "Energy Twisters" on my 4x wizards, or Zombie dog Explosions on my 4xWDs. Anything that seems to AOE the big group.
So what happens is, everything just goes into slow motion mode. My ping goes to yellow or red until some of the mobs die off, then all the sudden it's like super fast forward and I'm dead or a bunch of the mobs are dead.
I even tried cFosSpeed - a packet shaping and prioritization software - and set it so d3 is highest priority. Didn't seem to make much difference. I also tried going in through a VPN in case I had a bad route and that didn't see to make much difference.
I did notice (through cFos) that when I get the lag spike when I AOE the big pack, 4 new d3 processes or net connections open and are classified as (Unidentified Bulk).
Have any of you seen this problem? I was thinking I might try 3 boxing it vs 4 to see if it's an issue. I'm not sure if the d3 server just can't keep up, and we'd see the exact same problem if there were 4 different players doing the same thing. Or if there's some sort of bottleneck at the PC/Network level, and maybe breaking up 1 or 2 clients to a different machine may help.
