Fast leveling

I am leveling 3 new chars, leaching off a lvl 60 DH.
I was extremely unimpressed with the slow ex gain, no matter where I tried.
So i actually calculated, and it turns out you get way less XP if there's a higher lvl char in the game. My lvl 10 chars get ~18-21% of the normal XP, probably depends on the rounding. If I kill the mob with the lvl 10 char after the L60 leaves, I get the full XP (as per http://db.d3guyz.com/monster/detail?m_id=126). Turns out even bonus XP items are affected, by the same ratio. All the sites I read say that you get the full XP, but i have no doubt that's not true.

So...
Anyone know what the best way to level L10 chars is?
I could just buy all of them cheap legendary gear, and play them instead of leaching... But it has to be another way.

Re: Fast leveling

In that case, it is like boosting in World of Warcraft.

(I'm just picking numbers here)
A level 10 mob might get you 100 experience.
But with a level 60 there, it might only get you 20 experience.

If that were the case, you'd have to kill 5x faster for the boosting to be worthwhile.

However, that is not entirely the story.
A level 10 might be able to handle 10 mobs at once, and barely survive (again I'm picking numbers, I know you can kill more than 10 mobs at once).
A level 60 can do much larger pulls than a level 10, and survive with ease...

Also, level 40 mobs will be rather trivial to a level 60, but impossible for the level 10.
Rather than killing in areas that a level 10 can get to easily, can you get the lowbies to a harder area with a higher level in the game that has that boss/quest/area open?
If you can, that should significantly increase the experience.

Re: Fast leveling

Thanks for the reply Ualaa
My problem is that experience is frustratingly low, even in know high XP areas.
For example i get 38 xp for a stygian crawler (out of 175 full xp), and i need 28k xp for a levle up... That's 750 monsters...
Azmo quest gives 1500xp, it's not too bad. I currently do core+Azmo, but still hope there's a better way.
SO i guess my quesiton si if anybody knows efficient leveling places for lvl10 chars.

Re: Fast leveling

There are leveling guides out there. I've leveled a barb pretty fast using a few spots. Buy all+exp gear, then start quest in Act1, waypoint inside leorics mansion. You will need to go backwards up the stairs into little room then down the big staircase. There is guaranteed 20-30 monsters each time. You kill em, leave and remake. It takes 30 sec per run and it fills 1-2 sections of exp.
Boosting doesnt really work, at lvl 55+ you will get most exp from boosting, but if your game is full the character who is boosting will need craploads of dps to kill fast enough. When I boosted my barb it was 2 runs for lvl up in Act3 stygian crawler caves.

Thanks! I'll give it a try!
I tried different leveling guides out there, but im guessing leaching was ninja nerfed, and most guides don't take that into account.
My 100k dps unbuffed DH should be able to handle a full hell game...
I'll try leoric's mansion, but I'm guessing I'll have to do that without the booster... Should be able to afford godly lvl10 gear... :) (didnt have time to level since last weekend...). Also MP might help with this :)
If you can point to some recent leveling guides, i'd appreciate it.
Thanks again for your input.

Re: Fast leveling

The good thing about twinking... nothing is Bind on Pickup.

If you buy a really nice piece, for your level, for 10,000 gold.
Use it for 4-5 levels.
And then check the Completed Auctions, to see what you paid for the piece.
If you post the item for 10,000 gold, it will likely sell.
The AH will take its cut, but you'll still have 8,500.
1,500 gold isn't that expensive to rent a very nice piece for your level.

It's not boosting... but it is faster.

I bought a million gold, on the real money auction house, cost me almost $4.

With that, leveling through normal mode has been rather easy.
Not sure it will continue that way, all the way up.
But finished normal, and am starting Nightmare.
Have 990,000 gold, so doesn't cost much to "rent" gear.

Re: Fast leveling

Crypt of the ancients is fabulous for xp, as long as you're less than 5 levels above monster level (which is 10 for normal :(()
pretty much anything u can buy for 2k from AH will do the job. And you can use high CD/res cost skills to clear the place.
Just need a similar spot with level 20-25 mobs, so i can get to nightmare.

Re: Fast leveling

I just finished leveling up 3 barbs and also had a hard time figuring out a way to level them up. What I ended up doing was settling on the keeps depths 1-3 in act 3 on monster power 10 of normal, nightmare and hell.. I ended up here because it's one of the few areas where you can keep your other characters close enough to you without them getting killed. I was leveling quick and I had no +exp gear or leorics.
