From a MB'ing Noob..

Ok so I have just about managed to setup a 5 toon MB and so far I have managed to get 5 mages to lvl 10 (yeh I know this isnt a big deal but I have been trying to play the same way I always did i.e. questing as much as I can) and as I have been playing I have came across a few 'huh how do I do that/why does it do that' moments and I thought I would post here to see if anyone can help/advise specifically on problems etc I have encountered so far

Yes I know there is probably a lot of guides out there, but I need to just get to the answers/solutions that I need rather having to read pages and pages of bits that I dont need to know yet etc.

Ok so I have 5 clients setup using IS/ISBoxer, I have no addons loaded into WoW yet accept for ISBoxer, I use a combination of the keymap/repeater to move toons around and that works for the most part. My first problem was I created 5 undead mages and got the quest to talk to the 3 mobs in deathknell with the bouncy yellow arrows above their heads but I couldnt use IWT to get them to talk to them at the same time, so I had to switch each screen in turn to do the quest. Is there an easier way to do this?

After I figured out how useful IWT was I starting getting the quests where I had to get drops from killed mobs so I would target it on my main then IWT so that one of my other guys would wander off and loot. Is there an automatic way to make them come back of do I have to press 'Follow' everytime?

Sometimes when I cast Arcane Missles now thats is a proc rather than a skill like it used to be some of my toons with lose the follow and I have wandered off a little way before I have realised I have lost some so I have to go back and make them 'Follow' again im assuming there is a macro/something for this.

So far that only the real 'Problems' I have had running my team and I suppose now its a question of asking about the right kind of addons/macros to make it run even smoother. I not new to WoW as I have been playing on and off for the last 5 years (more off than on) and I have been getting used to the new bits they have added since cata came out, so I just really need to be pointed in the right direction of the sort of things I should be looking for, im not worried at the moment about macros or addons for running 5 man instances or multi classing, I just purely need bits to make accepting quests/doing quests/looting/casting/and making room in bags would be nice.

Oh and I suppose my last question would be about formations at it would be nice to have them lined up rather than in a bunch but thats purely a nice to have than anything else.

TIA

Re: From a MB'ing Noob..

For following, pretty much always use the in-game Follow.
You can use the FTL Follow Me, mapped key for this.
But you'll almost never want to use Repeater to move all your toons.

Take a hard look at the addon, Jamba.
Highly recommended.

If targeting the toon on the main, having the slaves assist and then Interact does not allow you to click the NPC...
You'll have to do it manually.
For the most part, you should be able to target with master, slaves assist, interact with target.
Then with Jamba, any option you pick on the main, the slaves mimic.
And you can set loot (quest reward) options to be the same, for each to have to choose, for them to default to the current character's choice unless they made their own choice (good for mixed groups).
You could mouse broadcast (repeater) to do a lot of the Jamba stuff, but Jamba has tons of things like Chat Forwarding from the slaves to the master.

Jamba can be set to "Strobe".
Which is auto follow, every second or so, with exceptions.
You can disable that when eating/drinking or when in combat.
I don't like Strobe, but that's about the only option for not needing to hit Follow often.
I've set a mouse thumb button to run FTL Follow Me, and press that often and easily; ie, no Strobe for me.

Any time you channel a spell, or enter melee combat, or give the slaves a movement command (Strafe, Turn, Forward, Back, IWT to move anywhere), that will break follow.

Re: From a MB'ing Noob..

Hi Ualaa,

Thanks for replying, I kept watching this post and noticed that no one was replying so I thank you for taking the time to reply.

About a day after I wrote this post I did download and install Jamba and I have been using it, altho I dont have an macros or anything setup as I not really sure what I should have running...

My situation is so far is that I have got my 5 mages to about 37 with an ok success altho im still missing a few easier way to do things:

I run my 5 copies of WoW and login in, hit invite and the slaves auto except then I hit Alt+F to make them all follow the master, I can then target a mob and press a spell and they all cast and its fine, so I know that bits working, the problem I have (or at least one of the most annoying) is say my master aggros something and I stop or a mob runs up to me, if I then target the mob and then hit a spell button, if they slaves are looking the wrong way they just stand there and I tend to panic at this point as I cant get them to turn around to face the mob so I can take it down. So Im obviously doing something wrong at the point, I was talking to someone in org and he told me about the click to move option, hit the assist macro and kill mob, I didnt realise I didnt have CTM enabled in the UI, and even tho I have it enabled im still not sure how that is supposed to work, and I have noticed that even tho I enable it (I think all of the accounts) its not enabled the next time I login.....

The other little problem is that with drop quests where I have to loot so many of something on a mob, I have noticed that I have to 'kill mob' 'target mob' 'hit IWT hot key' to make slaves wander over to loot corpse, im assuming there is no easier way to do this... Never really paid enough attention to the quests so that I could avoid anything that involved picking anything from a corpse... lol

Oh and I still dont know what FTL means... lol

I have also noticed that when I interact with a merchant the whole sell stuff automatically only works on the master and I have to switch clients to clear out the slave bags.

Re: From a MB'ing Noob..

Try using something like AIO, all in one, for selling. It is a very simple addon that will auto sell items for you, mine is specifically set up for selling greys. But it can also restock items like your runes for teleport and portals, bobbers, etc. Whatever you set it up to keep stocked to specific levels. It can also be set to auto repair when you IWT merchant that does repairs. So, selling, buying, repair... very nice to have and simplifies things nicely. My only issue with it, on my soloing mage, is it is not selling all greys. Need to figure that one out.

I can tell you that FTL does not mean, "Fraking Total Loss". LOL The L stands for Leaderless, as there is no specific leader required.

Re: From a MB'ing Noob..

The meaning of FTL is pointed out in the Quick Start Guide: http://isboxer.com/wiki/WoW:Quick_Start_Guide#Getting_started; notice the link in the second sentence of that section "This sets up a basic working configuration, complete with auto-assisting (via "FTL") Action Bar hotkeys 1 through =. " All most people really need to know about it is that it is a trick to be able to follow, assist, or target any of your guys, usually the one you are playing at the time.

As far as IWT, if you are using the standard method you do not need to worry about the Click to Move checkbox in your interface settings because it will be enabled for you on demand -- and then disabled. Instructions to set up the standard method are here: http://isboxer.com/wiki/WoW:Quick_Start_Guide#Interaction_with_NPCs. I don't think anyone else's guides to IWT enable CTM on demand, as some of them are meant to be built into your DPS keys (which I don't recommend, but some people like....)

Looting quest items is annoying, that's just something you'll have to deal with. IWT helps a bit in many cases though.
