DX11 problems

Hi everyone.

With DX11 and latest Innerspace beta my slave wow windows often get behind the task bar and when i alt tab to (for example) browser, its window only covers the main wow window while keeping slave windows visible. Also sometimes performance downgrades for no apparent reason (like taking a flightpath) and stays low untill relaunch of WoW.

As soon as I downgraded to non beta client and used dx9 this issues went away.

Any fix for this behavior?

Just in case my specs are i7 860 - 8gbram - win7 64bit - amd 5870 - wow on intel SSD.

If you're using Windows 7, the task bar is marked as permanently "Always On Top". Slaves windows, which are also typically Always On Top, will compete with it for top position the same way non-Always On Top windows compete with each other.

and when i alt tab to (for example) browser, its window only covers the main wow window while keeping slave windows visible.

In your Window Layout there's an option "Slave" regions Always On Top, and one next to it "but only for game windows". Make sure the "but only for game windows" is checked (it is checked by default). Assuming that is checked, this would point to a bug -- I'll check on it

Also sometimes performance downgrades for no apparent reason (like taking a flightpath) and stays low untill relaunch of WoW.

Yeah, taking a flight path doesnt sound like the reason to me either. How much of a downgrade are we talking here? I assume you're not running maxed video settings in all windows or anything, right? ;) The only known reasons for significant performance hits are if you're using multiple video cards and move windows between them, or using another program like X-Fire with in-game features enabled. You can also check the windows task manager to see if another app is hammering the CPU or something.

Re: DX11 problems

Thanks for the reply Iax!

All the checkboxes are at their default settings and the problem is that whenever I downgrade to non beta innerspace the window problem goes away, I have tryed to use dx9 under beta and the problem is there, so it is not a dx11 problem but rather something to do with the beta client.

Regarding the stuttering I had g13 cpu/memory addon running and it was at the usual 40-50% usage for both, while FPS in main window droped from solid 60 to around 15, switching to slaves brought it up to around 30 but that is probably because slaves are running at minimum settings. I

It happened again after a few alt tabs btw.

As far as taking a flight point, can jamba taxi addon have something to do with it? I will be playing with non beta client and see if stutters will happen again.

Btw while we are at bugs , do not show this message again checkbox is not working for me in isboxer CPU throttling window =).

The window issue is indeed fixed, while slave windows still often get behind the task bar.

Under old client when you alt tab ones in wow it always brings you to non wow window, while under beta client it alt tabs on to itself when the task bar gets visible on one or more of slave windows.

Hopefully my description is not too confusing.

Am I the only one with this issue ? :)

Re: DX11 problems

The task bar is marked as "Always On Top" and therefore any time it is accessed, it will put itself on top of any other window, including our slave windows. That is normal, expected behavior.

I'm not really clear on what you're saying here. Alt+tab is based on the window Z-order (which window appears above or below another), with Alt+tab going "down" and Shift+alt+tab going "up" in the Z-order. If your Window Layout has the default options selected -- "Slave" regions Always On Top, but only for game windows -- then the main window is not marked as always on top, while the slave regions are (until you switch to another window). Pressing Alt+tab one time will drop you to the window directly underneath the main window -- and this wont be one of the slave windows. The main window should then be one window below whatever window you switched to. Pressing Alt+tab one more time from that window will drop you back to the previously main WoW window, and the slave windows will pop back into position (and above the task bar).

I just typed that up as I did exactly that, I'm running Windows 7 x64 and this is with IS build 5339 and WoW in DirectX11 mode. If you're seeing something different, please try to explain in greater detail so I can try to reproduce what you're saying

Strange thing is, task bar issue only happens for me under beta client, when I downgrade it never happens, hence the question.
Like when I launch WoW via innerspace with old client, windows will load one by one and while loading task bar comes before the windows but when everything finishes loading up it will disappear. If I use alt tab at this point it will always open non wow window first.

Under beta when I launch WoW, when it finishes up one or several slave windows will always end up behind the task bar just like on the screenshot I posted earlier. If I use alt tab, it will open another wow window and task bar will disappear, ones it disappears alt tabbing again will open non wow window.

Direct X version does not matter its always the same on the beta client.

I could probably use disable taskbar always on top patch or simple auto-hide, but since it behaves differently under release client version I thought there might be some other fix =)
