Graphics Card Requirements For Dedicated Host

Hi all, lots of information to take in.

Quick question, if I have a dedicated r620 with 128 gigs of RAM, can I run my slave characters from that machine? It's a straight up server, like you'd see being retired from a data center. Like most servers it has on board graphics so I'm curious if I can even use that machine. I have a licensed copy of vSphere that I'd run as the l hypervisor and Windows 8.1 would be the guest OS. This is all software either licensed to me or hardware that belongs to me. Thanks!

For personal, non-commercial use, you can use our products on up to 5 PCs (or Virtual Machines) at the same physical location. See our Account Policies.
FYI: just pointing out the limit.

As for whether the game will like the onboard graphics, NFI; that would be up to you to test to find out. My guess is that while it might support directx9 or 11, the performance would be pretty rubbish with even 1 client, let alone the many that you'd probably like to run.

If you were using Hyper-V you can use RemoteFX, which would work nicely if you installed a decent card or two (or three which is about where that server maxes out); vSphere I don't know what it will support in the way of shared graphics capabilities.

Hey Bob, thanks for the reminder about the licensing. I only own two licensed copies of WoW so no need to worry about that. This was more of a PoC for me... I guess I just like to make things complicated. I think I'll do some testing and see whether or not the on board graphics will work. Thanks!
