Using Windows 8, having trouble launching

Hi Lax,

First time user, just wanted to give you an update with windows 8. With the latest build including test patches I still get the "stopped working" message and then another asking me if I want to send information to MS.

I am a sadpanda because I was hoping to have this set up and usable for the Panda release of WoW tomorrow :(

I will check back for updates, keep up the good work!

Cheers

Re: Using Windows 8, having trouble launching

I split this off of the old post as Windows 8 is generally working fine. I need technical details from you in order to diagnose the problem you are having. It does sound like incompatibility, but probably with something else also running, as opposed to Windows 8 itself.

Given your description there's 2 things that could help identify the cause:
1. ISBoxer has a "Diagnostics for game crashes" under the Help menu. Follow the instructions to get me diagnostics from a launch of the 32-bit WoW client (at the login screen is fine). You can Paste them here when it does the Copy for you, or paste to privatepaste.com and then give me the URL or Paste ID

2. If there's additional details in the error window that can possibly be provided to me as opposed to Microsoft, that might be helpful. If not, then there might be an entry in the Windows Event Viewer, being an Application Error from wow.exe at the time of the crash. The details of this kind of event can usually point out a specific DLL causing the problem (though sometimes it will report that it doesn't know which DLL). Here's how to get that information: Type "event viewer" into the search box in Windows (e.g. in the Start menu) to easily find it, and open it up. Then in the left pane expand the "Windows Logs" folder, and select "Application" under it. It might take few seconds at this point, but it should bring up recent "events". You'd be looking for an "Error" level of event, from the Date and Time of that message, from the source "wow". If you find an entry like this in the list, select it. Then in the bottom half, pick the "Details" tab, and click on "XML view". You can copy and paste me that XML and that might help identify the problem.

Re: Using Windows 8, having trouble launching

Hi Lax,

Thank you so much for the quick response, I actually started poking at it with a stick a bit and found that I had set the clients to compatibility mode for Win 7.

Removing the compatibility mode allowed the clients to launch the game.

Here are the steps I took:

1. Set WOW client to 32 bit (as I was running it on 64 bit client)
2. Followed your steps to add the game client with direct X9 params to inner space.
3. Unchecked compatibility for Win 7 (this did the trick!)

I'll try to use the default set up for WOW instead of the one I added manually to Inner Space and see how that goes.

Game launches fine now! Now to figure it all out!

Thanks again for your help!

Cheers
