us and eu version on the same computer

I have us and eu accounts and i like switching once in a while. The problem is that isboxer accepts in fact only one version, even if it is stored in multiple directories. i mean that it is no problem to have 2 or more copies of wow in different directories, isboxer + innerspace will deal with them correctly. the problem is when you have, like me, a us and an eu version. they are incompatible and isboxer + innerspace treat them as the same. so, either you see the list of characters of only one version, or, if you see them all (us and eu characters), and you try loading a character set of the second version it takes forever to load. up to 5 minutes or more! The first version to be defined in innerspace functions normally and loads normally. it is the second version, added in innerspace with add game, that has this problem. it is therefore not a problem of the us nor the eu version, but lies in the fact that innerspace configures correctly only one version of wow.
i have found only 2, very unsatisfactory solutions. each time i switch, i have to uninstall innerspace and isboxer and create my character sets again. installing 2 instances of innerspace and is boxer in different directories did not solve the problem due to register keys or other registration mechanisms.
the other solution is less drastic: i have to exit isboxer+innerspace, rename both directories so that only the version i want is called word of warcraft, and restart innerspace.
i understand that it is a very uncommon problem, and that a solution may not be handy at this time, but i thought it was worth mentioning in this forum.

Re: us and eu version on the same computer

I'm sorry, I can tell you're trying to get your point across. I'm trying to figure out what exactly you're saying Inner Space is doing, and what you're saying it should be treating differently. It sounds like what you're saying is that if you run an instance of the US version of WoW, and an instance of the EU version of WoW, at the same time, that it will not work.

What you didn't mention is if you can "do the same thing" without Inner Space and have it work correctly. This would probably be the first step to finding out how to do it with Inner Space. I see absolutely no reason why launching them with Inner Space should make a bit of difference.

The only difference that comes to mind immediately is that Inner Space, by its auto-detected WoW Game Profiles, will launch the wow.exe (the game client itself) and not the launcher, and you probably use the launcher when manually launching your game instances. When you use Add Game, do you point it at wow.exe? Or do you point it at the launcher? Did you try doing the opposite? If the launcher sets something up for your region, this could be important when switching between the two versions. (If there is an actual issue here and not a misunderstanding, then this is my only idea at the moment, because Inner Space will not interfere with the normal operation of the game)

Lastly, I have no idea what benefit you're getting from uninstalling Inner Space or ISBoxer or remaking your Character Sets. The only thing that matters as far as the issue you're describing, and your Character Set and Characters made by the wizard, is the Game and Game Profile selected for each Character to launch. I'm not clear on whether you're selecting the right version of WoW for each Character, but you must select the Game and Game Profile that corresponds to the version of WoW you want to launch...

Two World of Warcraft games loaded through Inner Space using two different folders:

You can clearly see that one game window is showing the US realm list and the other is showing the EU realm list. There were absolutely no issues loading the games up or logging into either character in separate regions at the same time.

Re: us and eu version on the same computer

tl;dr (sorry)

When Innerspace is run, it applies the rules in GameDetection.xml to figure out where World of Warcraft is, and it uses a registry key for that purpose. It then writes the file GameConfiguration.xml with that information. If you run WoW from a different directory, the next time you start Innerspace it will point to that directory.

So,

Run the US client by itself (and exit)
Start Innerspace (not ISBoxer!)
Exit Innerspace
Edit GameConfiguration.xml and rename the "World of Warcraft" profile to "World of Warcraft - US"
Run the EU client by itself (and exit)
Start Innerspace (not ISBoxer!)
Exit Innerspace
Edit GameConfiguration.xml and rename the "World of Warcraft" profile to "World of Warcraft - EU"

Run Innerspace again

Now, when you run ISBoxer you will have three options "World of Warcraft - US", "World of Warcraft - EU" and "World of Warcraft", Select the -US or -EU option when you build your team.

Edit: An example from my Innerspace folder (I strongly recommend not copying this, your GUIDs will be different and I don't know what that would mess up):

Code:

Re: us and eu version on the same computer

thank you guys. i will try and make good use of what has been said. glad i brought it up here.

okay, problem solved in the easiest fashion. all i needed was indeed to point to the wow.exe instead of the launcher.exe. so i did not need to edit the xml file, of which i am glad. i have a reasonable understanding of C in its many variants, so i can guess what is happening when i look at an xml file, but in programming details are everything!
thanks again.
edit: probably spelled the name just a little bit differently, with hyphen or something. created a new team, no problem.

Re: us and eu version on the same computer

trying to solve the iwt issue, i saved the innerspace directory and reinstalled everything. then i ran into this old problem. wow eu starts with no problem, while wow us does not start. last time it had to do with the profile, now both are on default, how do i put them on dx9 or dx11 in innerspace?

Re: us and eu version on the same computer

When you say it "does not start" this means what exactly? You launch your team and get no popups and no game window? If you get an error message, it would be helpful to know what it says.

If I had to throw out a wild guess... did you re-do your Inner Space configuration, and keep your ISBoxer configuration? If the "Game" now has a different name than the old one, then you will need to go to each of your Characters in ISBoxer and tell them the new "Game" and "Game Profile" (from Inner Space) to launch. To do so... in the top left pane under "Characters" select each Character.. then the drop-down boxes for Game and Game Profile are in the bottom right.

Re: us and eu version on the same computer

that's what i thought also. so either find out how it was spelled exactly, or ...
anyway. that did not solve the other issue. so a lot of hassle for nothing ):
