FPS drops to a screeching halt

Greetings

I currently run 5 WoW's (1 window on the main monitor and 4 on my secondary)
If I try to launch WoW from the same directory using virtual files the games lag
something fierce when the fourth instance load up.

If I use five seperate WoW's I can usually play for roughly 5-10 mins until the
same issue arise.

The four instances on the second monitor uses low on all details/no sound.
My main runs everything on max in a 2500*1680 resolution. Before the fps
drops like a bomb I have 60 fps (capped due to virtual sync) on every window so
it doesn't feel like the machine itself. Other hardware on the machine are 12GB ram
and dual SSD disks (for quicker reads).

When I use KC I don't see this problem at all, also when I load up the game using
no inner space, nor no isboxer I also don't see the problem (IE flying around with
5 chars)

The graphic card I use are SLI 480, but I've tried both with and without SLI and
no clear change.

Any ideas what might be the issue? I hate to go back to KC after getting used
to the luxury of true boxing.

Thank you

Here's two important things for you to read regarding multiple video cards:

Guide: Using multiple video cards

Start there and let me know if that helps

Re: FPS drops to a screeching halt

I switched so that I run all five windows on the same monitor (luckly its a 30" so they actually fit semi decent)
The issue with stuttering fps have stopped, but I'll prolly at a later date try my luck with moving them to an
alt monitor following the advice in the posts you mentioned.

Thank you for your insight

Re: FPS drops to a screeching halt

Hmm i am getting low fps on my SINGLE GTX480 also, it always been fine with a huge ammount of fps when i stopped about a months ago.

Obvious my version patched and i am down to 23 fps doing nothing even even as low as 5 fps on main when fighting.

This is unplayable and nothing changed on my machine, i was planning to start all up again :(

My setup is 4 slaves on left screen and 1 main on right screen. My main has full gfx details and the 4 slaves the lowest of the lowest details. The slaves are working as the should on my second screen, it's my main that is having no fps.

This setup has worked perfect before patch wow, before patch innerspace.

Lowering the gfx detail on the main to the lowestt of the lowest did not have any effect and fps stayed the same.

If you have any tips lax, i have no idea as i have not changed anything.

Re: FPS drops to a screeching halt

The default warcraft video settings were reset.
With the 4.0.1 patch.

So without changing anything, Shadows/Weather Effects etc have been set much higher then previously.
Also you can set SunShafts and reflection of water, etc, which are serious video drains.

And that's without changing anything on your end.
Just by playing the game.

From Dual-Boxing...
If you want to manually raise settings use:

/console farclip 1250
/console groundEffectDensity 256
/console groundEffectDistance 260
/console environmentDetail 150
/console particleDensity 100
/console shadowMode 1
/console waterDetail 3
/console reflectionMode 3
/console sunShafts 2
/console basemip 0
/console terrainMipLevel 0
/console projectedTextures 1
/console weatherDensity 3
/console componentTextureLevel 9
/console textureFilteringMode 5
/console Sound_EnableAllSound 1

And to lower settings, use:

/console farclip 50
/console groundEffectDensity 0
/console groundEffectDistance 0
/console environmentDetail 0
/console particleDensity 10
/console shadowMode 0
/console waterDetail 0
/console reflectionMode 0
/console sunShafts 0
/console basemip 1
/console terrainMipLevel 1
/console projectedTextures 0
/console weatherDensity 0
/console componentTextureLevel 0
/console textureFilteringMode 0
/console Sound_EnableAllSound 0

I've got my "high" settings quite a bit lower then the maximum settings macro.
And the low settings similar, but greater view distance from the low settings macro.
And then mapped keys to auto run the two on a switch.
