Melee and casters in same group

Hi,

I'm pretty new to ISBoxer, basically just learned to make a 5 man team, levelled and did some quests but at the point where I want to try some instances now.

Tank: Paladin
Dps: mage, hunter, paladin
Healer: priest

I am struggling with two things:
Melee:
Basically what happens is that my tank charges ahead and attacks a mob. My mage and hunter responds to the mapkeys and cast/shoot at the mob, but my retribution paladin doesn't enter melee range to attack, but stop just out of range from the mob. Unless my tank walk backwards to pull the mob in range with the paladin, he just stand there and look pretty with his auto attack button blinking.

Ranged:
My ranged dps (mage and hunter) do the same as my retribution paladin, which means they are *barely* out of their own melee range. So they do in fact use ranged, but is it possible to make ranged dps actually stop and fire at the mob as soon as they are within firing range, rather than walking all the way up to the big bad mob and start shooting? My healer do the same and I saw a video recently that they make a macro/key that made the healer move (aka stop following). Is that what I have to do with all ranged toons? Use a key to force them to move and thereby stop following the tank and then they will start attacking as long as the mob is in range?

Any help would be awesome. I don't really have a lot of addons, but I picked up some pointers on healing addons that I will be using, but any suggestions for addons that might improve my ability to run instances would be great as well.

Thanks!

Re: Melee and casters in same group

I'd make an Action Target Group (ATG) and call it melee.
Maybe another one, called Ranged Attackers.

Create a mapped key.
Keystroke Actions > New Keystroke Action > Target: Ranged Attackers (ATG) > Keystroke "S".
Give it a hotkey in game.

Press this, when you're 20-30 yards away from wherever the mobs will stand once your tank engages.
This will have your ranged toons break follow, a fair ways back but in damage range and facing the right direction.

Have another mapped key.
Keystroke Actions > New Keystroke Action > Target: Malee (ATG) > Keystroke.... Whatever your World of Warcraft keybind is for Interact With Target.

Press this, and your tank and melee toons will move from their current spot, to wherever the hostile mob/player is that they're targeting.
You will need to have Click to Move enabled, for them to move (/console AutoInteract 1).
Which means not using or disabling any mapped key that disables Click to Move.

Once you've broken follow on the ranged guys and/or healer.
Press this hotkey, and your tank + melee will move in.
If the mob moves, press this hotkey again, to adjust.

Alternatively, don't bind the tank (don't put it into the ATG for Melee), so you can manually move that toon.
Without the mapped key moving you.

Re: Melee and casters in same group

This method is pretty much exactly what I do for my mixed teams, except that I put both of those actions in the same mapped key so I only need to make one key press. YMMV.

Re: Melee and casters in same group

Okey, I think I get the whole mapkey part, but what do you mean by "give a hotkey ingame"? I made it so that "shift +s" target each ranged dps and healer. That's as far as I got :)

Re: Melee and casters in same group

To clarify, set a hotkey for the mapped key in the Toolkit.
And once you've finished all your configurations, export the profile to Inner Space.

That also assumes you have the default keybinding, where "S" is backwards movement.
And any movement, such as backwards movement generated by pressing the "S" key, will break follow for your healer and ranged toons.

Re: Melee and casters in same group

Hm..I'm sorry for not quite getting this. What I've done so far is:

1) In the top pane I chose FTL DPS keys
2) In the bottom pane I rght clicked "mapped keys" and chose "new mapped key"
3) I chose hotkey "s"
4) I now have a new mapped key (hotkey: S)
5) I click on step "1"
6) I right click on actions in the new pane and chose "keystoke action" and "new keystroke action"
7) I chose one of my ranged dps as target and assign "s" as key combination
8) I repeat step 7 for all my ranged dps + healer. I now have 3 ranged toons all targetted by this mapped key
9) I export and now I made this mapped key word! Thanks btw!!!

So what I struggle with now is to make my melee dps join the fight without having the ranged toons enter the melee range. If I press alt+g for interact, all my toons (ranged as well) walks up to the mob for a small chat. How can I make an IWT function for my melee, that don't affect my group *but* also keep the mapped key that makes all my toons interact with quest mobs and shops? I see the easy sollution would be to have no melee dps of course, but curious how I best can solve this if I want to keep melee dps

Thank you all for the help so far, really appreciate it

Re: Melee and casters in same group

As mentioned earlier, what you need to solve this issue is an Action Target Group. This allows you to select a subset of characters that you wish to perform a particular action, in your case Interact with Target. Once you have created the ATG you will be able to use the ATG as the target for your actions, rather than all of the characters in your Character Set. Please review this link to get you on the right path.

Re: Melee and casters in same group

I have an Action Target Group, called Melee.
I have dragged all of my Melee characters into this group.

I made two mapped keys for melee IWT behavior.
The first is:

Name: Melee IWT
No Hotkey.
Keystroke Action > Sends my Wow IWT keybind > Target: Current Window

The second is imbedded into my DPS spam...
But you could give it a hotkey, and use it manually to IWT just your melee characters.

No Hotkey (But you can set one)
Do Mapped Key Action > Melee IWT > Target: Group (all of) Melee..... which is the ATG we made, with all your melee characters in it.

The setup I use:

Re: Melee and casters in same group

I see, thank you! I missed the part about action groups :D

When I make a new mapped key, does it matter if I make it under "control", "general" or "FTL DPS keys"?
