Graphics stutter when 5-boxing since 5.x/MoP

Hi all,

I have a high-end gaming laptop (i7 8-core, 16 GB, 2G nVidia 2000M, Win7) that was giving me smooth-as-glass framerates and play prior to 5.x/MoP, even with my main window on High quality settings in game. Now in 5.x, I get an interesting graphics stutter that seems to be limited to instances - it manifests as a 0.5-1.5 sec stutter whenever I cast a spell (I use the priority macro system when I 5-box, so all my button mashes broadcast keys to all 5 clients). My characters are still casting, and my dps is pretty much unaffected, though I have missed a couple heals as a result... I see posts all over the Blizz forums related to video lag and network latency, and at first I thought my issue was the same, but in trying all of those solutions (and understanding the specifics of those issues) I no longer think my issue is the same. If I had to guess, I would say my specific issue is related to rendering spell effects - every time all of my char's cast a spell (nuke, drop a totem, dungeon mob groups cast on incoming, etc.) I get the stutter that lasts through the fight. In between fights, I have smooth as glass response from all 5 clients, and interestingly in a standard dungeon group fight the "spikey-ness" lessens when fewer enemies are left in the fight. Against the Orgrimmar attack dummies I have almost no perceptible spikeyness, lag, or stutter. I have set the WoW client graphic detail in-game to “low” on all 5 clients, updated drivers, and no change as a result.

I'm not asking for any of you to offer the specific solution, as much as to just find out if I'm the only one experiencing this issue since I haven't really seen anything posted here specific to multibox lag.

Thanks in advance for any information (and apologies in advance to Lax as I cross-post over at the dual-boxer forums).

Re: Graphics stutter when 5-boxing since 5.x/MoP

up untill 5 minutes ago i was doing fine, now i have this exact same issue. everytime i cast something theres a 1 - 2 second framerate drop . it feels like a full pause, even when the fps display shows only a drop of 10fps. this happens when something is cast. (instants, or a cast time animation is started. doesnt happen when broadcasting a key that presses a button with no spells in it.)

what triggered this problem was chaging the CPU Strategy, i want from the basic round robin, to asigning one core to each instance of wow. (this because round robin forces client one to core one... the same core windows runs the os on and does video processing. so performance was so bad, i had to actually play the slave clients as masters.)

anyway, on client one fps went from a crappy 40, to 60 when watching a movie on the second monitor, but i started having this stutter on cast. i tried changing the crpu strategy again, even going back to the old strategy, fresh runs after a pc reset, etc... and the probem is still there.

You could try running the CPU Wizard, see if that gets you a configuration that works.

If you're asking for support... attach a copy of your configuration.

its not IsBoxer, its the wow client. its trying to write to the same file with all clients at the same time, if you download and install an addon like "stubby" that catches wowlogs and prevents them from being written to disc the bugs is gone.

use the command /swat noauto to prevent poups

If you're experiencing a hard lock for a second or two upon entering combat, then it's an addon -- Most likely an addon that deals with combat in some way, shape, or form. Also, if you're getting Lua error popups at the same time as this is happening then you probably shouldn't just ignore them. Wouldn't it make more sense to try and resolve the errors that pop-up rather than just push them away and deal with the stutter?

It's not the game client writing to the disk as almost all disk writes are performed upon successfully exiting the client or upon reloading your UI. Addons are not getting written to while you're playing, which is exactly why if you make changes to anything in your UI w/o doing a /reload and the client crashes (or you press ALT+F4), the changes are not saved.

Hi,

I have had the same issues, after a lot of **** I found out in my case it was Jamba Item Use. Since I disabled it on all accounts, the problem was gone.
Now all the gfx settings are almost on max.

If you were still using the old JAMBA that wasn't updated for MoP, then yes that would have caused a loss in FPS. However, JAMBA was in numerous stages of beta releases over the past few weeks which weren't causing a loss in FPS. Jafula also recently pushed a brand new release of JAMBA as a stable 1.0 version.

TL;DR - Make sure your addons are completely up-to-date when a major content patch is released (especially an entire expansion).

Hi Mirai,

Jamba was 5.0.x ready, had updated the addons the day after MoP was released and a while after rechecked.

Alright, well if it was completely up-to-date and you were still seeing issues, then I would suggest reporting the issue to Jafula by either submitting a ticket on Curse or by posting in the JAMBA thread on dual-boxing.com.
