Ctrl-f problems

I am having a ton of trouble getting my 2 box team working right in swtor, I have focus my main, follow my main working right but the ctrl-f to target my mains target will not work. I get the message < you have no target> my main is also targeted. If anyone can please help me I am completely stuck on this one thing stopping me from enjoying this game with 2 box team.
