Video card upgrade time recommendation please

Hi All,

Very short and sweet requirements.

Currently using ATI HD 4670.

Want to successfully be able to run 6 instances of Everquest 1, on 2 monitors:
1. Monitor one is my tank only
2. Monitor two is setup as slot 2 huge on top, and slots 3-6 below it in little windows.

I want to be able to run that setup with no lag at all and at least 30FPS per instance with spell effects etc. turned on.

Windows 8 64bit
32GB of RAM
i7 4930k Processor overclocked to 4.5GHZ
Asus Rampage Motherboard
2 Video card slots for SLI mode

What video card(s) will give me the performance above? Can a GTX 760 do it? how about 1 GTX 770?

I am fairly certain a GTX 780 or 780 Ti can do it but if I don't have to spend all that money I don't want too. Want to know the cheapest card that will meet my requirements as anything is a massive upgrade for me from where I am coming from (HD 4670).

Thanks!

Seagate SSD drives
2 x 28" Hanns G monitors
6 boxing EQ1

I don't have any numbers on EQ1 because I've not really played it, but the 770 would be the safer bet. I'm pretty sure you can still crank up the settings on both EQ1 and EQ2 and force the CPU/GPU to sweat, so I'd probably go with the fastest single-GPU I could afford (or would be comfortable affording).

You'll be fine with 6 instances and a single card.

Re: Video card upgrade time recommendation please

Any of them with that setup will rock 6 instances of EQ at 30 fps for sure, and possibly 60 fps; however, there's not much point to a higher framerate for EQ. The animations are so slow there's nothing to see past 30 fps.

(And before anyone asks, I don't know squat about hardware. I know EQ, and I'm using the same processor with a 760. That's all I know)

:)

Re: Video card upgrade time recommendation please

Good deal, thanks! I will just go for a 760 for now and see how it goes! It sounds like I can set my profile to be 30FPS for foreground application as well instead of 60 for EQ. This will give me more to share across the others possibly.

Thanks!

Re: Video card upgrade time recommendation please

My system is a similar type system to yours, but a bit older.

3930K instead of 4930K.
We both have 32GB of ram.
I've got an Evga GTX670 4GB.

My system runs 6 instances of Everquest smoothly.
It also runs 4 instances of of D3 smoothly.
When I was playing wow, it handled 10 instances of Cata/MoP smoothly on medium (main) and low (alts) settings.

Pretty sure, with the 4930K processor upgrade over my system...
The 670 will be more than fine for EQ.

Re: Video card upgrade time recommendation please

Thanks for the response! That makes me feel much more secure about my purchase (I went with a superclocked GTX 760). It will be here in 2 days.

Re: Video card upgrade time recommendation please

I just wanted to come back to update my thread. I listened to the advice and got an overclocked eVGA GTX 760 and I am running 6 instances, flawlessly with no lag, no follow issues and 100% all visuals etc. running at maximum. I am extremely happy!

Thanks for the help!!
