i7 9700KF vs Ryzen 7 3700X

Hi everyone,

I have been multi boxing 5 x World of Warcraft: BFA characters for about 6 weeks on one PC with dual monitors.
I am currently using an i5-7600 4 cores with 4 threads at 3.5Ghz, 16GB memory with an Nvidia GTX1070 video card but its struggling even with all the video settings at lowest.

I was hoping if anyone could recommend either the below for 5 x characters at 60 fps on all 5 windows (currently 30/60)

Intel i7 9700KF 8 Cores with 8 threads at 3.6Ghz (not overclocked)
OR
AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8 Cores with 16 Threads at 3.6Ghz (not overclocked)

Cheers!

If you aren't overclocking, then it's a pretty close race. The 9700KF will likely squeeze out a bit more performance, since Intel is usually a better performer in games, but what makes it a tough pick is that the 3700X should be better when all of its threads are in use, which is where multiboxing workloads come into play.

So, I don't think there's a wrong choice.

ps. 60FPS on all windows might be a big ask, depending on resolution and graphics quality.

Unfortunately for you, this is not going to all be about CPU with your requirements, although it will be a a big part if it is currently pegged at 100%.
That said, the CPU gets busier when you run out of other resources, so if you are topping out your RAM and/or your GPU in anyway, then relieving those may also relieve the CPU.

Sometimes you need to look at all the parts of the computer, and consider how they work together.

If you really want your 60FPS, on all windows, and assuming Ultra quality graphics on main, and tuning the background windows, and at 1920x1080, then I'd be looking for the Ryzen CPU, 32GB RAM , and a 2080TI.
Essentially you 1, don't want to run out of RAM, and WOW (BFA) can be a bit of a hog these days, You want as many cores as you can get, and you need as much GPU grunt to run 300FPS (with the quality can be tuned somewhat on the background in order to achieve 60FPS). If you want Ultra on all 5, at 60FPS, that might be a tall order, even with todays graphics cards.

Re: i7 9700KF vs Ryzen 7 3700X

Thanks guys for the feedback.
I should have included more detail about what I am trying to achieve, that was my bad.

Ideally, I would like to run 1920 x 1080 with ultra settings at 60 fps on a 27 inch monitor (minus shadow if required)
For the 32 inch screen, run four characters with all settings on low / medium at 60 fps, I care more for smoothness than graphics on these.

By the sounds of it though either CPU should do the job, both are similar priced for $600 here in New Zealand.
